Police belonging to Chiba Prefecture’s cybercrime control division have arrested an unemployed 35-year-old man on suspicion of theft. According to police, Yoshiyuki Sato, who was arrested on Tuesday, accessed his ex-girlfriend’s internet bank account and stole 39,000 yen, Sankei Shimbun reported.

Between June and September 2017, Sato, who lives in Tokyo’s Adachi Ward, illegally accessed the woman’s internet bank account seven times to steal cash. His ex-girlfriend, who lives in Chiba Prefecture, noticed the unauthorized withdrawals and contacted police.

Police said Sato has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying, “I was curious about how my ex-girlfriend was living and how much money she had.”
