John Lennon Super Live held at Budokan

The late John Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono, 77, held a memorial concert dedicated to his memory at the Budokan in Tokyo on Wednesday night, exactly 30 years since the day he died. Twenty-five of Japan’s top music artists joined in the annual "Dream Power John Lennon Super Live" show, a charity event founded by Ono to raise money to provide education to deprived children all over the world.

This year marks the 10th year of the concert and the 70th anniversary of Lennon’s birth. Ono herself appeared onstage to perform "Rising," a song she dedicated to her late husband and one that powerfully expressed the strength of the bond that still ties them together.

The show started with a projection of a collection of photographs that were recovered after having been stolen and have therefore never been published. Following that, Tamio Okuda, Kazuya Yoshii and Kazuyoshi Saito performed rousing renditions of "Starting Over" and "Woman." Next up was Yoshikuni Dochin of pop duo Chemistry who performed "Mother" and told the 12,000 strong crowd: "Taking part in this event marks a huge turning point in my life."

Actress Kyoka Suzuki also appeared on stage to perform "Imagine" and "Love."

All women carry a pick and shovel! Nothin` wrong with a little gold digging, especially if you have the smarts to get that big marlin into the boat! Well done Yoko!

A "gold digger"? Someone who's organised "a charity event founded by Ono to raise money to provide education to deprived children all over the world" is hardly that.

Americans have such a skewed, outdated and nigh-on racist view of Ono. I don't get it.

You should check out the prices for the lithographs of drawings done by John Lennon, sold by none other than Ms. Ono. THAT is gold-digger.

Yoko Ono comes from one of the original zaibatsu families. I seriously doubt she is a "gold-digger."

John Lennon Super Live

I can't help but think they should have substituted the word "Concert" here, as an event to commemorate the 30th anniversary of someone's death.

How about having a concert on how the guy was one of the biggest hypocrites in the world calling for world peace and love while he isolated himself in his excusive neighborhood and wouldn't/couldn't even see or recognize his first son because of Yoko Ono.

Where was Shawn his supposed "rightful heir to his musical legacy" (Yoko's words) or Julian ( Oh wait I almost forgot he had to stop his career under orders from Yoko if he wanted to keep receiving his inheritance).

Its easy to call for world peace, harmony and for mankind to share when you live in a multi million dollar penthouse, try doing that when you can't even pay the rent.

Remember the Beatles sang "Money" (lead sung by John) when they were just starting and only sang All you need is love once they had all the Money they would ever need!

Looks like Yoko is wearing adult diapers, how gross. She's always been only in it for the dough, the most successful groupie in history.

I've never been much of a Beatles fan. But even I am amazed at the viciousness some people still harbor towards Yoko Ono simply because she had the "gall" to marry John Lennon. I'm amazed that I have to remind those people that she was John's choice for a partner. Everybody acts like she was controlling Lennon, when by all reports Lennon was a strong-willed artist who had no problem telling people off if he disagreed with them. Does that sound like someone who's gullible?

They're probably jealous.

Ebichiri - couldnt help but notice that myself!

Lennon apparently had a massive thing for Asian women. Can't blame him for that! Was two-timing Yoko with a Chinese-American (his secretary?) according to some of his bios. I love some of the later Lennon solo work, he could have made some awesome albums if he'd got off the smack - and Chapman hadn't intervened...

Let the old Beatle rest in peace. Yoko's caterwauling damn near wakes the dead.
