The Carp will take a 1-0 lead into Game 3 of the best-of-seven series in Fukuoka after Game 1 was called a 2-2 tie after 12 innings.

I can almost understand why the Japanese have tie scores during the regular season, but in the finals, it makes no sense.

This will possibly become an 8 game "best of 7" series as the first game was a draw.

They should have just continued the tied game before they started game 2!

Agreed, it's weird. Especially when you keep in mind that they will keep high school baseball games going for 50 innings until they are finally over in the championship.

In any case, I have a few friends who are Carp fans, one of whom is a rather nice old guy except when it comes to baseball, when he seems to think he himself is a player on the field and contributes to their victory. I said to him last week when he said he hopes the Carp win that I hope the do well, and he said, "Thank you. Thank you for your support of us. We do our best." Haha.

Actually the championship game and other games as well for Koshien are stopped at 18 innings if they are tied and the game is replayed.

The most recent example of that was when Tanaka, and Saito pitched in the Koshien finals and the game was called after 18. Saito's team won the replayed game.
