In this case I agree with Rubio. But he and his fellow GOP members backed him, and as long as their richest and most powerful campaign donors keep sending the millions to keep them in office, they'll continue to back him.
Rubio and the GOP will continue to back Trump's assaults on environmental regulations, on worker and consumer protection, on any measures intended to provide some protections for citizens from predatory capitalists. How about healthcare? How's the funding for the opioid crisis coming?
GOP and Cult45ists: you own this mess. And it's only getting worse.
kurisupisu
What a negative adversarial article!
Why must Americans always need enemies to feel good about themselves?
And being indicted is not proof of guilt is it?
So, what is there for Trump to ‘admit’?
How many US senators have been to Russia to declare that the Russians are ‘enemies’ ?
So many ludicrous comments and right after the World Cup where fans from all over the world got to experience Russian hospitality while sipping on their Cokes...

'Wave of condemnation hits Trump after summit with Putin'
and rightly so.
Chump doesn't want to bite the hand that feeds him.
PTownsend
You've been posting on a western free, for-profit media site for a long time. By now you should understand that in a free press an array of opinions is possible.
It's not like countries with state-controlled media where just the state's perspective is offered. Thankfully.
Strangerland
If only the right would have had such a non-critical opinion of Obama. But no, to them Obama was the devil, but when Trump does devilish things, Trump is a saint.
The hypocrisy is mind blowing.
Blacklabel
More like why does the left give Obama a total pass on what happened while he was president? While also claiming that him telling Putin to "knock it off" was some kind of master negotiation strategy that showed strength and power? Did we ever see Obama have a summit and call out Putin publicly like you expect of Trump? No, we had Hillary and a stupid red button and then "Tell Vladimir I have flexibility after the election".
Why two different sets of expectations? You want Trump to start WW3 over some unproven indictments, but Obama knew about the meddling and you make 100 excuses why he was ok to say nothing. (McConnell wouldnt agree to him announcing it? GIve me a break....)
Strangerland
They haven't. Obama has been widely criticized by the left for both his usage of drones in the middle east, as well as not protecting the people from invasive measures by the NSA etc.
The right on the other hand has almost been entirely absent in its criticism of Trump's foul-ups. McCain has been vocal, but he has been pounced upon by Trump's zealots as being unpatriotic for daring to criticize dear leader.
ClippetyClop
Because we know Trump is lying to protect himself from whatever Putin has on him. You know this too, don't you? You can try and deflect with your Obamas & Hillarys, but your boy is making fools and of your entire team. With a little critical thinking, you'd realize that something is deeply wrong here. A dark day for America (again)
Blacklabel
And how do you know this? if you knew you wouldnt have to say "whatever" Putin has on him. you would be able to specifically identify what it is. You know, facts that come from having actual evidence not speculation and hopes.
Strangerland
If Trump had followed the procedure that 40 years of presidential candidates had followed before him, there would not be any question of it. If Trump wasn't hiding something, we would know. You seem to be blaming us for Trump hiding his payments from Putin.
LOCK HIM UP. LOCK HIM UP.
PTownsend
Putin's defense to a T. He knows after his years in Russian intelligence and for the last 20 or so running Russian intelligence that the only people who have the 'evidence' to make a verifiable claim are those in intelligence agencies who've had direct involvement. Consequently his and his supporters constant cries of 'prove it'.
Curious that some Americans, maybe around 35%, are so unwilling to accept what US intelligence agencies say and instead support Putin. Curious too, that some of those same Americans question the 'patriotism' of those who see things differently, especially those who don't want to see a foreign power gain further footholds in the US.
Raw Beer
Seems it really does not matter what Trump does, he will always get this kind of condemnation from the usual crowd.
PTownsend
If by the 'usual crowd' you mean those not part of Trump's cult of personality, those who fear Trump's doing harm to the remaining bits of US democracy, those who fear thug capitalism, those who don't want the US to become like Russia, China, North Korea, Turkey and other totalitarian states, among other worries, you're probably right: the condemnation will continue.
Thanks to the US still being a participatory democracy (though that's being further weakened) and a free, for-profit press, people can criticize their leaders. Knock wood that continues.
Cricky
Nice photo, very Russian.
theeastisred
We don't know if the Russians have 'kompromat' on Trump or not. But we do know they stole then released the emails damaging to the Hillary campaign, and Trump knows deep down he couldn't have won without it. That explains all his subsequent actions re Russia and Putin. 'Self first, the rest nowhere' is always Trump's motto.
Laguna
Typical. Most GOPers are terrified of the president, and for good reason: he's never hesitated to viciously put his own interests before country.
America cannot count on the conscious of Repub reps. It must rebel against them and demand Trump be impeached. This will eventually occur; the only question is how much damage he will cause in the interim.
mu-da
An American president is making propaganda for the Kreml's policies - against his own people. Putin is indeed skilled and successful (KGB) operator. You couldn't make this up.
rainyday
The most pathetic display ever. I have to feel sorry for America, having such a coward for a leader.
Shikisai
@kurisupisu
Oh, this one is easy-when you are raised on superhero movies, you kind of think you and anyone in your nation is superior and more important than anyone else. And to be a superhero one needs to find a villain, or appoint them. Also, since you are a superhero nation, you need to be completely blind or forgiving to your own wrongdoings. That's about it.
PTownsend
Keep it OVERsimple: is that today's message from St. Pete?
mrtinjp
The usual AP narrative based dis-information, and no mention of Trump's reply to that prestitute AP reporter. At the end of his short speech Putin actually apologized to Trump, which could only mean that some major policy changes are on there way, this explains the so called condemnation by Russia haters.
Strangerland
Link or it never happened.

Hung Nguyen
How could Trump condemn Putin, as Russian money rescued his business from bankruptcy in the 90s?
mrtinjp
Link or it never happened.
Link or it never happened.
All you need to do is watch the un-edited full press conference recording, its all there... guess the blind hate of Trump overrides everything.
Black Sabbath
There are three, and only three, explanations for Trump actions here:
He's incompetent. He's compromised. Both.
But that's a problem going back to last year. Still digesting the implications of this, but I think I'm comfortable moving the likelihood that Trump is compromised to more likely than not.
That is very disturbing.
On another note: now we'll see who are patriots and who are not. And I think it more than obvious that the majority -- not all -- but the majority of Republican voters are not gonna end up on the right side of that question.
smithinjapan
Trump is a treasonous coward. Russia owns him, and now he owns the US as a result. All the cowards who defend Trump know it and are either running scared or trying desperately, as Blacklabel is, to deflect and somehow blame Trump's conference on Obama.
commanteer
Really, only severely brainwashed people worry about the "patriotism" of others. It just reinforces the us vs them mentality of fear that pervades US politics.
Black Sabbath
And we'll also know who is on a payroll.
CrazyJoe
What the Republicans say means nothing. If they fail to pass a law protecting the Special Counsel investigation and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein from Trump, they are Accessories to Treason.
u_s__reamer
They're getting the woodshed ready for when dodgy Donnie returns home from his "POTUS Abroad" caper, after which he'll be licking his wounds in Melania's doghouse again. OUCH! Like Terry, Trump "coulda been a contender", but he blew this last bout with Putin and he might soon be too punch-drunk to get back in the ring.
Toasted Heretic
World news? Seven US stories, most Trump-related. I think that's possibly overkill - the man will be gone, sooner or later and hopefully the US will be able to heal itself. If not, well, the world is so much more than the destiny of one nation.
PTownsend
and calls any report questioning what he did 'fake news'. And his followers will echo him. This latest mess he's created has taken attention away from his payments to porn stars and prostitutes, his ties to the underworld in the US and 'abroad', his nepotism, conflicts of interest, measures to undermine environmental, worker and consumer protection legislation, Americans losing healthcare with no adequate replacement, among so many others.
mu-da
Are you really sure that he owns his tongue?
jcapan
I'm so old I remember a time when Bush-Cheney lied the country into war and when those of us on the left vehemently opposed it we were called 5th columnists by tools like Andrew Sullivan--now part of the resistance, mind you. So when I see Democrats adopting this strategy, it's beyond depressing.
If you want to say Trump's in Putin's pocket or that the Russians have something on him, OK. If you want to say Trump or members of his administration are acting against their country's interests, fair enough. But could we please stop tossing around words like traitor, treason and unpatriotic for American citizens no matter who they vote for. It's ludicrous, counterproductive, and it has always been a vile right-wing talking pt.
elephant200
Now Mr.Putin owns USA! Very good strategy of Russia! People who supports Trump were Mr.Putin's assets now!

It seems rather appropriate in an ironic sort of way that you would resort to whataboutism, given that the Soviets were so famous for it.

Finally the voice of reason. We may disagree politically. And that Okay. There is no doubt in my mind Donald Trump loves America and will defend America at all costs. He is NO traitor. The man is a different type of Patriot. God bless him for it.
This is coming from an O-3 USMC. (retired). Semper Fi! Rah.
ClippetyClop
You got that right, but not in the way you think. Draft-dodging cadet bonespurs certainly is a different kind of patriot. A manchurian candidate being run from the Kremlin.
zurcronium
Hah, wrong-o Mr Marine. Donald Trump loves just one thing, Donald Trump.
starpunk
Donald J Trump is a TRAITOR and his actions and kissing up to Putin proves it! His treason and subservience to Russia is apparent to all.

Donald Trump will adopt the doctrine of Vladimir Putin very soon in U.S. : ' Make those opposers or oppositions DISAPPEAR no matter they were domestic or abroad! ' Like those exile Russians in "Salisbury"!

How come it's OK to have dialogue with the governments of Communist China and Saudi Arabia, both more repressive than Russia, but not Russia?

Trump is clearly the "Russian Governor of America". Trump takes his orders from Putin. Trump does not care about America or Americans. He has vacated the position of "World leadership" and is clearly subservient to Putin. There can be no greater proof of his collusion with the Russians in order to get elected than how he treats and defers to Putin.
That America does nothing to protect itself from Russian rule and the damage being done to its international standing and its alliances by the "Russian Governor of the US" is absolutely amazing.
America and the world may never recover and Putin will go down in history as the worlds greatest mastermind who took down the American Juggernaut and its allies. With the US out of the way it will soon be China v Russia. I wonder who will come out on top.
rainyday
"Dialogue"?
Completely subjugating the dignity of his country to one of its adversaries is not "dialogue". If he or any president performed the same antics with China or Saudi Arabia he would be just as roundly ridiculed.
Strangerland
Sure, they call themselves communists. Next you'll be trying to tell me North Korea really is a democratic republic.
You actually have to follow the tenets of the political ideology you profess to follow, to actually be following that ideology. As China is not following the tenets of communism, regardless of what they choose to call themselves, they are not communist.
Belrick
Way to go Trump! Two leaders of nations the last 3 presidents couldn't get any respect from, in 2 months. An amazingly beautiful First Lady and a POTUS that walks the walk.
rainyday
Fact: Trump has not been respected by either Putin or Kim Jong Un. He has been played, and so has the US under him.
Ah_so
Quote of the day. I love it. Up there with "alternative facts".
SSo it seems that one man's traitor is another man's patriot. Patriot meaning that he puts the needs of his enemies first and believes their lies over the evidence of his own intelligence services.
Sone kind of patriot.

Slumlord vs. KGB Agent. Guess who wins!

Slick drifter: "We Marines do not run scared and will defend our President with our dying breath."
It'll be your drying breath asking him not to run while you guys die for no reason, then. If the president had honour and integrity, that would be one thing, but you've literally just said you'll defend the man who not only refused duty in Vietnam more than four times, but has given the keys to the country to an enemy, who literally LAUGHED at you. Remember that, because it might be the last thing you do remember if you are intent on defending a man who would throw you under the bus at any minute (and already has).
"There is no doubt in my mind Donald Trump loves America and will defend America at all costs. He is NO traitor."
No, Donald Trump loves Donald Trump, and he loves money, and that is all. He is very much a traitor, and has committed treason, and put the blame on you, my friend.
Toasted Heretic
Indeed. The phrase we were only following orders, springs to mind.
Not allowed downvote you for some reason, but your leader is beholden to Putin. So, very much a traitor.
bass4funk
We don’t know if Putin has anything on Trump, I personally don’t think so, because if he did Trump wouldn’t have killed a bunch of Russian fighters in Syria or given weapons to the Ukrainians, but I do think Trump on this one is being overly naive about Putin. Yes, he’s been in many areas more tough on Russia, but he should have outed Putin live on TV. Again, I get why he didn’t want to, but it would have helped put Putin on the spot and on notice, because Putin doesn’t want to be looked at as a fool, that would have gotten his attention.
commanteer
Were you (and your upvoters) suggesting I am on a payroll for expressing an opinion that opposes yours? That pretty well proves my point.
Laguna
Deep state. Note that zero of substance was produced from this "summit" - no decisions on anything whatsoever. That's likely as the "adults" have precluded it.
Belrick
Fact: the above is typical of a Liberal mindset.
commanteer
Exactly. It's all a zero sum game to them. The kind of thinking that leads to wars.
ClippetyClop
Kind of like your captain's tradey tariffy balance of payments war eh? Zero sum and then some.
starpunk
There's that word - DISAPPEAR. The deadline has passed for the Traitor administration to reunite the kidnapped children with their families. VERY few cases of compliance have occurred. Oh I guess some of those abducted children will just 'disappear' and never be 'seen' again. That's what happens in a fascist nation. Ask Pope Francis about that. He quietly resisted the fascist regime of his native Argentina and he was arrested for it.
theFritzX
Jcapan,
Its a vile left win talking pt now.
the left owns it.
mukashiyokatta
"Failure on a scale the likes of which have never been seen before!"
plasticmonkey
Beyond the obsequiousness of the words themselves, Trump's physical demeanor and body language at this summit are in such stark contrast to those at NATO, with the G7, and at his white nationalist "rallies". He's like a little lamb. A wimp in the face of a dictator Trump could only dream of becoming.
starpunk
Benedict Donald is in Putin's pocket. He is Vlad's pokemon ('pocket monster').

Who was the President that gave the order for SEAL Team Six to kill bin Laden? OBAMA.
Who was the President that gave the order for withdrawal of US forces from the wasteful pointless Iraq War that was launched in 2003? OBAMA.
Who was the President that gave the order for NATO invention to help take down the ultra-terrorist dictator brat Moammar Qaddafy when the Libyan people rose up against his rule? OBAMA.
Who was the President that gave the order for launching the air and sea attack war against ISIS when they emerged from the ashes of Iraq and conquered part of Syria, displacing millions of innocent people - some of whom are MUSLIMS? OBAMA.
Things are very hazy at best as to what the US is doing to whom and what in the Middle East region except 3 things:
the US embassy for Israel is now in the divided city of Jerusalem and that caused anger and death to innocent people on both sides of the fence there.
the US forces have launched attacks on Syrian targets which are dubious at best. The first time it was at a empty Syrian airfield with all the Russian-made gear removed. Either way, both times Trump asked Putin, 'Mommy may I?'.
Traitor Trump has totally kept several innocent refugees from even seeking asylum or help in America on the account that many (but not ALL) are MUSLIM. That is nothing less than total discrimination, bigotry and hatred. Plain and simple. There's no getting around that **fact. **Benedict Donald's hatred is as clear as winter ice.And there's an epilogue or Number Four. Spanky Don is making a profit from all the violence in that war-torn region and all his double-talking is really pointing to the FACT that even though he wants us all to treat him as a deity, he's wrapped around the finger of Vladimir Putin of Russia and he has openly sung Putin's praises over and over again and again and again. Everything he does is with Putin's permission. And at the same time he has this 'mama's boy' complex where he subjugates himself to a porn star by saying to her, 'Mama, would you?' and enjoying getting SPANKED by her.
President Barack Hussein Obama took a lot of crap during his legit 2 terms in office but he took out the terror thug bin Laden when his predecessor wouldn't. He helped taking down a terror-monger thug who was always a problem for Europe, NATO, Middle East, the Mediterrean, and half of Africa when a very real danger popped up. And when ISIS started up their crazy bigtime ruckus he also acted fast on a very ugly situation. He worked with our allies in every one of those situations and he acted CIVILIZED about it. The record stands. Many of his blamers just don't want to give him credit for anything because of his color and 'strange' non-European name.
starpunk
Like PTownsend I also have to agree with Rubio on this. Being a boot-licker to a smug thug is NO working relationship or diplomacy at all. It's a master-and-servant situation at best, and obvious to all by now - treason. And like Walter Cronkite used to say on TV, 'That's the way it is, folks. This is Walter Cronkite for CBS News. Good night.'.
Serrano

Yeah, right, rainy, if Obama had done this ya'll would be showering him with praise for trying to get along with Putin, who has done way less damage to the U.S. than China's Zi.
