Always up for a good read by a good person. Looking forward to it.

The extreme left will buy up all the copies. No way I would buy it or read it. I bet there is a lot of things attacking President Trump.

She was a great First Lady. Classy and strong. We've actually been pretty lucky as a country with our First Ladies overall.

Excellent. If it's half as good as her husband's writings it should be good. I'm heartened that those who will not "buy it or read it" (presumably the latter action is a given if you buy it, no?) are doing so.

It means they won't be able to post commentary on a book they haven't read.

One must also be saddened at the peculiarities of the American political and educational system that has produced some people who equate liberalism with the extreme left.

I hope Mrs Obama tackles poor education in her book.

@TH peculiarities of the American political and educational system that has produced some people who equate liberalism with the extreme left.

Though there are myriad explanations why this is, I go back to R. Dawkins and his sense of the power of memes, especially those memes made up of 7 or fewer words, those easiest to remember and repeat, those that are so effective they keep millions from thinking beyond them. 'Build a wall!'

Extremists of all sorts - religious, political, whatever - have long been adept at using language to persuade the easily led, especially those unwilling or unable to do think for themselves.

wonderful lady. definitely worth a read.

Why would anyone be interested in her memoir? A glorified housewife who was not elected to office

Some truth in there. She wasn’t elected but not every ‘housewife’ is married to an ex-president.

She is clearly a very intelligent and classy woman. She was a fine ambassador for her country. Judge her on her conduct.

Intelligence and class - these qualities are sadly missed as the current occupant of the White House screeches around on the lawn in his clown car while mooning our of the window.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Princeton and Harvard.

Some people feel intimidated by people more intelligent than they are and lash out. I have an older brother much more intelligent than me, and my partner is also more intelligent than me. I got over this a long time ago.

Clever people shouldn’t be resented. Supporting trash-mouthed ignoramuses as a way of poking clever people in the eye isn’t a good policy.

One thing that must bite is the idea that this ‘glorified housewife’ could probably earn more for one speech than any of us here earn in a year.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

could probably earn more

and Michelle Obama probably has superior reasoning skills, a superior knowledge of world events (present and past), a superior understanding of how to work with people to get things done, and a superior vocabulary, among other things, in comparison with most humans anywhere any time, and particularly in comparison with those who demean her.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

But I suspect it's Michelle Obama making and paying for the donation. A very kind gesture from someone you only consider a "housewife". Is Martha Steward also just a "housewife?"

And what a heroic gesture that is, Zichi!

Now let me ask you this;

would she have sold a single book if her husband had not become President?

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Did Michelle ever get her hope back?

Oh my...

Judge Jeanine: I'll tell you what hope is, Michelle

@Clamenza

She probably wouldn’t have written a book if she hadn’t married a president.

She would have probably been a top lawyer earning more than you or I. She may have married another elite type and stayed at home with the kids - quality usually attracts quality.

She’s in a different league to us and would have been successful even if she hadn’t married Obama.

Profoundly intelligent, extremely well educated and very classy. These women succeed.

If making money from family connections annoys you, you must be furious at the circus/swamp of nepotism in power now.

You mean the family who is actually losing money by doing the thankless job of getting the country back on its feet? The President who is actually donating his salary to the Dept. of Education?

That one?

They have made more money in the past year than ever before due to Trump manipulating the economy in his direction.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Oh, here we go.

Why would anyone be interested in her memoir? A glorified housewife who was not elected to office.

Oh, most definitely and trying to force people what to eat. Typical.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

It's sad how some people can be intimidated by an intelligent black woman.

It seems we still have some distance to go before acceptance, let alone equality.

What’s that got to do with making money from family connections?

Do you think Ivanka and Jared would be in the positions they are in without family connections?

Do you think Ivanka has used her position to try to flog merchandise?

I know you hate double standards.

I do too.

Color has nothing to do with it.

It seems we still have some distance to go before acceptance, let alone equality

Oh, the left and their inability to give up the race card.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Color has nothing to do with it.

ROTFL etc

Oh, the left and their inability to give up the race card.

Coming from someone who cannot distinguish left from liberals, I'll take that with a pinch of salt.

Why are you intimidated by Michelle Obama?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

@bas4 Oh, the left and their inability to give up the race card.

I've mainly heard alt reich-ists and other white nationalists use the term 'race card'.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Coming from someone who cannot distinguish left from liberals,

I’m from California, that’s like saying, what’s the difference between rat and a mouse.

Why are you intimidated by Michelle Obama?

Not at all intimidated, I just think she’s snarky and annoying.

I've mainly heard alt reich-ists and other white nationalists use the term 'race card'.

Really? Well, The Democrats did create the Klan, so go figure.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

I thought Laura Bush was a fine ambassador for the US too.

@Burning Bush: Don't you know people use. Wordprocessor? For foreign language. Versions, there are different robot translators. Stop writing you are seniors.

The Obama's epitomise the American Dream. Both break the molds of Stereotypical American Coloured folks and have each risen to the peaks of their respective careers, including Politics. They'd both be welcome as a dinner table companion anytime.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

That said, though I wonder if I would be fitting Dinner table companion for them... as I feel I would be completely outclassed.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

She would have probably been a top lawyer earning more than you or I.

She was a top lawyer.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I’m from California, that’s like saying, what’s the difference between rat and a mouse

That doesn't explain why you can't differentiate between liberals and the left, though.

Not at all intimidated, I just think she’s snarky and annoying.

So you don't like her styleor delivery, then? How did you feel when Melania plagiarised her speech?
