How will Trump's supporters spin this as a positive? We'll get the usual generalized "levelling the playing field" without any specifics on how there is a need or how to mitigate the fallout.

"All parties should pay the same parcel delivery rates for the same services from the U.S. Postal Service, regardless of whether the country of origin is foreign or domestic."

True.

I would expect the providers of the services in each country to provide reasonable and customary pricing all along a shipping path.

I agree this should be changed but I don't see how pulling out gives us leverage. I'm worried Trump is the wrong man for the job.

From Wiki; " As of 2018, US companies pay more than twice as much to mail an item from a US plant to a US customer, than does a manufacturer in China to mail an item to a US customer."

Changes have been made and implemented as late as 2016. Looks like this does not need to be "on or off", just update the rules for a semblance of equity.

I didn't see this or wasn't able to determine from the article, and I'm certainly not up on my UPU knowledge but…

If pulling out of said union means "They won't even be able to send (a package) to a neighboring country. It's an accord that links everybody," then doesn't the opposite hold equally true? Wouldn't this also mean that everyone else in the rest of the world would not be able to send packages to the US? Who would be hurt more? And why would non-postal companies like FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. not be allowed to ship parcels?

If anyone has some credible answer/source on those questions, please post that info here.

I do not support Trump, but this is something that should have been fixed a decade ago.

Canada has had the same problem with China and made a deal that increases the rates starting in2018. The difference is that Canada didn't withdraw from the UPU.

In the business world, you get the other party's attention by threatening to cancel a contract. It means you are serious. This appears to be Trumps main "go-to" technique to get other govt agencies to clean up their own crap. If they'd already been doing their jobs, none of this would be necessary.

And congress is most of the problem. They're always trying to get USGovt money for their constituents instead of doing what's best for the entire country.
