This will be good with pop corn. Can't wait for the anniversary of the deal to see how the Chinese can double their purchase of US agri-goods, or what their excuse will be ;-)

Exactly as I predicted.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Exactly as I predicted.

I think you pushed “POST” before you were finished.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Exactly as I predicted.

Was the prediction Trump would claim he was going to fix a problem, do little if anything, then claim he'd fixed it? Like NAFTA? Or was the prediction he'd make announcements about a faux accomplishment to distract during the impeachment.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Trump creates problem. Trump fixes problem he created. Deal is worse than before problem he created.

So, Trump starts a trade war. It inflicts pain and results in a bigger bailout for farmers than what the auto makers got form Obama. The terms are murky and largely unknown, and then you clowns call it "a win."

Do your job.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Create problem. Appear to solve problem.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

President Trump keeps delivering on his promises. Best President since Reagan.

-2 ( +7 / -9 )

Yet the tariffs are still in place. I very much this will change things.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Chip: I think you pushed “POST” before you were finished.

Nope.

I predicted that as we got closer to the election Trump would become more desperate for a deal since he has no accomplishments on the world stage and a recession seemed more likely. I predicted a fuzzy deal would be done that will be mostly cosmetic in nature that wouldn't come near the deal he promised, but technically he could claim a deal was reached so it would be a "success."

Any deal that includes China's "promise to buy more" is not a deal. China is going to buy more as their middle class expands. I could make that happen on my own by doing....nothing. Access to the financial markets is great but that's going to happen on it's own anyway as China will need more access to capital. Again, I could have gotten that concession from China.

Since day 1 when everyone was talking about the trade deficit I brushed that aside and said the real issue is the intellectual property and I was upset Trump wasn't talking about that. Later on he did talk about it more and I said I was glad to hear it. But this deal does jack for that, nothing concrete at all. This is where Trump utterly failed. It's a nut he doesn't have the skill to crack.

The Chinese just got drastic tariff reduction for empty promises. As usual, there is no text of the deal, and Trump's announcements are often lies so we don't know if this weak sauce is even accurate or not.

Oh, and I love the "phase 1" label. Just classic. You can almost hear them saying, "This deal is a nothingburger so we need to make it sound like it's part of something bigger....that hasn't been negotiated yet." So great. We're at phase 1, guys.

Now Trump and Fox News will have some flashy empty numbers and Trump fans will react with: "President Trump keeps delivering on his promises. Best President since Reagan."

I'd like to take credit for this concept but in reality it's from Obama. He told Trump to make some cosmetic changes to Obamacare, change the name, then declare victory. It all made complete sense. And Trump was dumb enough not to do it.

Trump just blinked. The end.

There are the written Chinese laws, seldom enforced, then there are the unwritten Chinese laws which are actually enforced.

But it offered no details, and business groups said more needed to be done to combat Beijing's aggressive trade practices.

Delay tactic. Hoping nobody notices that nothing has changed. US would be better off just ending trade with China and working to gain other markets where a fair deal can be had by both sides.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Another victory, more liberal anger cause they claimed it wouldn’t happen. Not good fortune tellers on your side.

Okay this is probably true - the Chinese are agreeing to protect intellectual property and not force technology transfers but it’s a given they will cheat just like the Iranians cheating on Obama’s bomb deal. But it’s obvious that Dems think Trump will get credit because Pelosi is trying to preemptively claim credit for her side. It’s like how they are constantly trying to claim credit for the success of Trumps economic policies.

LOL! Another problem solved like the signed agreement with NK.

White House offers first details of partial trade deal with China

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2019/12/13/china-stays-quiet-trade-agreement-despite-trumps-sign-off/

"China trade negotiators confirmed that the two had sides had agreed the text of a deal but refused to confirm any specific detail," said Michael Pearce, senior US economist at Capital Economics in a research note. "It's not clear exactly how much China has pledged to step up its purchases of US goods."

No details like the NK solution.........Kim just fired rockets a few weeks ago. Another great deal by "the Negotiator".

"China has yet to confirm this pledge or provide any details on how they will meet it," Brian Kuehl, co-executive director of Farmers For Free Trade said in a statement. "Our hope is that this is not another empty political promise to farmers."

Looks like another attempt to distract because Trump will get impeached in the House.

@Wolfpack

but it’s a given they will cheat just like the Iranians cheating on Obama’s bomb deal.

Logical fallacy! Provide evidence that Iran violated the deal before Trump (US) actually broke the deal!

No accomplishments, eh? Keep your head in that sand, SuperLib.

You are wrong on this and Lou Dobbs is right -

Dobbs breaks down phase one of Trump's China trade deal

Stupid Trump. Dumbest and worst POTUS of all time. I doubt America could ever find a worse president in a million years. But then again, the US is capable of putting any dummy in office. Time for the smart Americans to stand up and vote Democrats in 2020.

The so called trade deal phase 1 will fail when China does not purchase anywhere near 50 billion in farm goods. Tariffs will go up and egg will land on POTUS face.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Stupid Trump. Dumbest and worst POTUS of all time.

That statement has no basis in reality.

The so called trade deal phase 1 will fail

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

@serranoI find your lack of faith disturbing.

I find anyone who believes anything Trump says ... naive at best.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Another victory,

says no economic expert ever, Trump hasnt even got a deal yet just a small part of a long multipart process. The damage has already been done to US farmers, many folded many just hanging on. Even if china does buy all the products Trump is stating its going to take a number of yrs before many of these farmers can get back all their losses. US farmers have already lost market share to TPP members Brazil and Argentina now they have to compete at reduced prices to claw back market share lost. Still a long road to travel on this so called "easy to win" trade war. Trumps desperate for a distraction or even a token win on the world stage, China has all the time in the world and they know it. China playing Trump like a hillbilly fiddle. lol

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Stupid Trump. Dumbest and worst POTUS of all time.

That statement has no basis in reality.

No, it is accurate and factual. I base it on choices he has made since gaining office that are idiotic and his personality shows definite sign's stupidity. It is indisputable.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The best President in your lifetime by a long way........ M A G A !

If you do not see it you are part of the problem.

In my life time there have been many Presidents, none like this one !

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

There has never been a president like this one, your right and lets all pray there is never another that comes even close to this inept specimen.

Trump and his believers/followers ARE the problem. The intelligent see it clearly. The blind will always follow the stupid as is evidenced by Trumps followers. Some would call them anarchists as they wish to turn everything established on its head. Break agreements made in good faith and tell porky pies about almost everything. Time will tell if the "trade agreement" survives. but so far it has not done anything but bring harm to the US.

While the idea of making China more responsible and reasonable in trade and intellectual property is the right direction, doing it in the most damaging way possible to yourself is just stupid.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Having an idiot in charge of trade policy has not worked out well for us so far.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Ok, another win for this President and now the Democrats have.....

Oh, 3 years and a failed impeachment on their records.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Ok, another win for this President and now the Democrats have.....

I wonder if he got China to pay for the wall....

Oh, 3 years and a failed impeachment on their records.

Hey Donnie, how does it feel to have your personal lawyer under investigation for 8 felonies - most being for corruption?

And talk about the crook returning to the seen of the crime - who approved Rudy's overseas trip? Was he operating under your direction on this trip? How about the previous trips?

In my life time there have been many Presidents, none like this one !

Sure there was - check your history - circa 1974...

It’s sad that based only on what you read in the media about someone you don’t know- that you are somehow sure he wouldn’t.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

The deal is done. Complain about the contents of the deal if you like. But not about the guy who got it done or still claiming it’s not done. It is done, as promised. And more to come.

just like USMCA.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Black lab: You’re taking Donny’s word that it’s done, just like you took his word that Mexico would pay for the wall and NoKo was taken care of. How many times will you let Donny make you look like a fool before you decide to reclaim some of your integrity?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It’s sad that based only on what you read in the media about someone you don’t know- that you are somehow sure he wouldn’t.

We’ve had over 40 years of Donny’s actions from which to make an educated guess.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

But not about the guy who got it done or still claiming it’s not done. It is done, as promised.

Are you talking about the China deal or the "wall", and getting Mexico to pay for it?

If you're talking about the wall, he ain't got that done...

But maybe if you put your MAGA-vision goggles on, you'll see this 2000 mile long wall with a big neon sign saying "paid for with pesos"...and a portrait of Trump saying "paid for by Trump's Charity"....

And more to come

Said John Bolton...

So, Trump starts a trade war. It inflicts pain and results in a bigger bailout for farmers than what the auto makers got form Obama.

So, it it was bad for the automakers to get bailouts? No?

Those bailouts came from U.S. taxpayers, whereas the farmers have been getting money from the tariffs.

China playing Trump like a hillbilly fiddle. lol

Yeah? What was China playing Bush and Obama like then? Because they got played bigly.

Your premise that China is playing Trump like a fiddle doesn't add up. A person being played like a fiddle doesn't do anything the fiddle player doesn't like. China has been complaining loudly about the tariffs, plus their GDP growth is the slowest in 27 years.

Having an idiot in charge of trade policy has not worked out well for us so far.

Go have a look at the current economic numbers and get back to us on that.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

The farmers are getting money from the tariffs?

The tariff money is paid by US companies who import the products and ultimately the consumer. China doesn't pay any of the tariffs.

And let's not forget that every single product imported from China was ordered by American companies who want the cheapest goods possible and have no interest in supporting US workers. All of the additional profits from moving products offshore have gone directly into the pockets of the top executives, while the remaining workers have gotten nothing out of it.

US companies screwed the US workers, not China.

Current economic numbers? Are you kidding? The YEARLY deficit is over a trillion dollars, the jobs report was a fantasy since it counted striking autoworkers returning to their jobs as new jobs, wages are stagnant, retail sales are down and worst of all, the fed is bailing out the banks at the rate of about 100 billion per week (per WEEK) to prop up the economy.

Republicans have consistently trashed the economy and spent the public into massive debt.

When Clinton left office, the federal budget deficit was nothing. There was a budget surplus for the previous four years and now the deficit is a trillion(!!) dollars per year.

Haha still begging for your savior John Bolton. He’s not coming.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Trump was a beloved figure with a successful TV show. Until Nov 2016. So you have 3 years of Dem attacks, not 40 years.his actions even today would be fine if he was Donald Trump (D) President.

No, auto bailouts good - thank you President Obama. If we had a Repub President, we'd have no more US car companies...

Those bailouts came from U.S. taxpayers, whereas the farmers have been getting money from the tariffs.

That's funny - even other Repubs know the :tariffs are paying" is BS. I see you like bailouts for the farmers - good - it comes right out of the Socialist playbook - government subsidies 101. So as we've long suspected, Trump and Trumpers are really socialists... Maybe you need to dump Pence and recruit Warren...

Haha still begging for your savior John Bolton. He’s not coming.

My savior? He wasn't my National Security Adviser - you mistake me for someone orange....

And I bet John just loved being called a "disaster" - don't you think so?

I obviously had higher expectations for Trump on China than Trump fans did.

Sad.

@Numan: Logical fallacy! Provide evidence that Iran violated the deal before Trump (US) actually broke the deal!

Iran hates America and chants “Death to “America“ constantly. They cheated on previous agreements with international organizations such as the UN. It is illogical to think that Iran would not cheat again given that the regime is the exact regime as has existed in Iran since the attack on the American embassy and took hostages for a year and a half. Obama had to bribe them with pallets of cash to get them to sign on to the deal - essentially Obama was suckered out of billions to build IEDs to blow up more American troops. It is fallacy to believe Iran is any different today than yesterday.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@Peter14: The so called trade deal phase 1 will fail when China does not purchase anywhere near 50 billion in farm goods. Tariffs will go up and egg will land on POTUS face.

A Leftist Nobel Prize winning economist predicted that the US economy would tank when Trump was elected president. He let his emotion get the better of clear eyed judgement. The American unemployment rate is at historic lows, wages are rising for the first time in decades, and the stock market is continuously reaching historic highs. All this while Trump has imposed high tariffs on China and other nations with unfair trade policies.

I cannot say I blame the political Left for being frustrated by Trumps successes despite their hatred, the media’s obsession with taking him down, and the FBI’s success in getting a FISA court to surveile his campaign. The IG ruled that Carter Page had his 4th amendment rights violated by law enforcement. After the impeachment ends with Trumps acquittal in the Senate in January, the remainder of the election year will likely be spent with criminal charges being filed against Trump opponents.

China is finally capitulating because they know impeachment has failed and Trump’s getting re-elected.

China is finally capitulating because they know impeachment has failed and Trump’s getting re-elected.

Trump is finally capitulating because he's knows impeachment makes him look weak and he needs the illusion of a win for his doomed re-election.

There, fixed it for you...

Except that the inspectors on the ground verified Iran abiding by the agreement. There went your entire argument. You’re not doing well today, Wolf.

Sure. Mind showing us the text of this “deal”? We’ll wait.

Remind me to never hire you to "fix" anything.

China is finally capitulating because they know impeachment has failed and Trump’s getting re-elected.

There, fixed it for you.

Watch the Democrats try to take credit for this phase 1 China trade deal like they did with USMCA.

Didn't Trump say this a few months ago?

I'll believe it when I see it.

And what about IP theft? That was actually the thing he had a lot of support on from the left, including myself. This article doesn't mention that issue. Are our friends on the right not going to discuss that one? They also were supporting it...
