while the prolonged disruption to factories and businesses .

I don't know about most of you out there, but I don't buy nor support "made in China" products and have had no trouble buying what I need. This is why it was not a "great" idea for those who put their eggs in 1 basket. You pay what you reap. Same applies to investments made buy staying out of China, so far I have profited vs losses. It's always great to spread it out and has higher returns.

Yes you do. I know this because you are talking to us online. You are definitely using something made in China to type that very post.

I really don't mind paying more for quality products that are not "made in china."

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Almost impossible unless you are willing to give up many modern devices like smart phones, computers, anything with a chip in it, motor cars, appliances. Solar panels. The list is very long

A good number of chips and electrical products are actually made in Taiwan, Malaysia, etc.

So it's not impossible. It's VERY possible.

So it's not impossible. It's VERY possible.

Um "very" is not something you can use to expand on possible. Something is either possible or it isn't.

It's probably possible to give up things made in China.

But it's not particularly realistic if you live in current society.

Using a body double by any chance?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It's quite realistic actually. Perhaps not practical. But certainly doable.

At the very least, even if one cannot completely discard china products, the world can rely less on china-nese products.

It's quite realistic actually. Perhaps not practical. But certainly doable.

Doable and realistic are not the same thing.

I could live the rest of my life without ever drinking anything but water. It's doable.

Definitely not realistic.

Definitely Doable then.

“I don't know about most of you out there, but I don't buy nor support "made in China" products”

typical middle class spraff. The working class have no alternative option and I’m sure if you look around your house many items are M.I.C

You may well be buying made in China product that are labeled as made elsewhere.

For example. For bicycles, the USA has a 60% added value rule. So my CANONDALE has made in the USA printed on the frame even though the frame is from China, brakes and gears from Taiwan and the Shimano wheels are made in Malaysia. If they buy the frame from China for $100 then add parts of $61 value ...HEY PRESTO its made in the US of A.

Wearing surgical masks is not effective for preventing the contraction of viruses. It seems a lot of people are to intellectually lazy to research this and prefer to look like morons, like in the photo.

HEY PRESTO its made in the US of A.

Not any more. Rules for 'made in USA' is now very specific and enforced stringently.

Schiits audio gear recently had to change all their labels from 'Made in USA' to 'Assembled in USA'.

IMO, the 'economy' is down on the list of priorities behind 'containment', 'social order', 'political stability' and 'environmental protection'.

*I think it's very possible to avoid, or at least reduce purchasing products MIC. Of course as mentioned, electronics, machinery etc which contain MIC components can't really be avoided unless the manufacturer changes it's supply sources or production bases. But simple items with the MIC tag can be avoided, often it being simply a matter of paying more for costlier alternatives. Which in many cases can result in higher quality as well.

No disrespect to the dead and their families, but one piece of good news, the death rate is still hovering around 2%. So 98% of those who get sick are recovering.

The Chinese government is partly to blame for not jumping on this epidemic much earlier.

Instead of acting on it immediately, they just hid from it until it was too late to deny it and deal with it more effectively.

The people in China should be pissed, but, hey, it's a dictatorship so what can you do about it? Not a damn thing. Expect this to happen again with a government like this.

There is some bad karma coming for those Chinese officials who had physicians in China arrested (who had said that the virus can pass directly between people in early Jan.) Then there was the unwise giant banquet held in Wuhan !

Shimon.... the 60% added value rule is still valid for the bicycle industry. Other sectors have different rules.

I still do not believe the number of reported deaths. I think it is 10 or 100 times what is reported. This is from collectively reading, watching, and listening to information leaked out of China. Also this was a bit interesting as well.

The hero Dr. Li Wenliang (who China is trying to erase from history) gave his warning on December 27, 2019. He was threatened with arrest and went back to doing his job and died eventually. If only the CCP would have listed to him.

This is monumental as I do not think China would do something that is going to be as economically devastating as what they are doing unless there is a very good reason to do so. This will really hurt China and the world supply chain. Some of my clients are already impacted with delays of shipping equipment.

On one of the weekend shows in the U.S. they flat out asked the Chinese Ambassador if this could have leaked from the Wuhan Virology laboratory. He did not admit so but would not deny this either.

@Kobe White Bar Owner, "Using a body double by any chance?"

I am also not convinced that is Xi Jinpiang who has been so quiet and amazingly out of sight. If this is in fact Xi it could be encouraging as it might indicate he is willing to show his face due to the fact things may be improving. There is a great deal of speculation he is staying in the background only to emerge if things turn around.

I do not see this as China bashing. I hope China can overcome this and pray for the people of China but I do not believe anything they are putting out there.

It is crazy to compare this to the seasonal flu in any way whatsoever.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Xi will throw thousands of government officials under the bus to stay in power!

If this is the fight methods used to defeat China, it is not working. Why ??? , people around the world are dying. Pls spend yr valuable time, developing a cure. I bet I know which country will develop the cure...........

The only thing holding back the Chinese Economy is the CCP. Remove them, and watch China turn into a truly amazing Economic Powerhouse.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

We usually need more rest, fluids (potable water), and I take vitamin C a lot which has helped me, my family getting past the flu.

As always the focus is on the economy, above all else. What about the positive reductions in CO2 from the reduction in what is mostly needless consumption?

People who can't feed themselves next month don't care about CO2 emissions. If 1.4B Chinese can't feed themselves over the next year, they don't care about CO2 emissions at all.

Of course the economy is important, unless you have a little farm, raise your own food, and prepare for winter by canning enough food.

Do you have 90 days of food? We don't. Generally, we could push the food to last 10-14 days before shopping, but usually shop 2x a week for fresh produce.

People should not be worried about a slowing economy during deadly contagious disease Coronavirus was spreading fast and killed thousand of people and tens of thousands of people were infected with deadly contagious disease Coronavirus in China. The Medical Virologists have to work around the clock to stop spreading Coronavirus and find the vaccine for the Coronavirus in time. Otherwise, we will be suffering more than economy slowing down. Chinese Government needs to open up and cooperation with WHO and other countries.
