Divest now. The junta is an illegitimate government. Companies mentioned above walking around with their SDG buttons on the lapel are typical Japanese PR stunts with hypocrisy as its middle name.

I'm glad the info is being shared with the public. People have every right to boycott these companies, even if it's something as simple as chosing a different brand of beer.

Dirty business(es)!

In any other G7 country JICA (Robin Hood in reverse) would be subject to strict oversight and review.

Yup, this is Japan, where the ruling Junta, LDP, were created by Yak money and CIA slush funds- so why would the Japanese firms have any qualms doing business with that regime.

Blaming the Japanese companies now? Other Japanese media outlets have reported that Abe and Suga secretly supported the junta with secret funds in return for various favours, most notably the exclusive supply of military weapons to Myanmar. The jgov is so dodgy that it's tarnishing the reputation of Japan, and sending it into third world status similar to the pre meiji period.

Is anyone at all surprised?

Is anyone surprised? Japan has one of the most dismal human rights records in the modern world, so why would they HONESTLY try to make a difference elsewhere? Sure, the government SAID they wanted to, but actions against it? About the same as Kirin -- failing to act to end the relationship while trying to portray themselves as caring. Well done, Japan! Unless they end all these relationships immediately, they support the junta and what they are doing literally.

Sigh, it seems the US Republican Party's affinity for fact free conspiracy theories isn't confined to the far right wing. There are, apparently, wild conspiracies for every political leaning.

Very high possibility.

@Tom Doley. Lol, what you said makes no sense.

Sven asai lol, you think long term growth aspects are looking good for china?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Why is it OK to have relations with them, but not Myanmar?

It sure is very strange. Probably because Myanmar is a Buddhist independent country.

Yes, agreed, very bad indeed. But what’s the alternative? Unemployment rising or at least less profits and taxes for Japan and in addition , China takes it all over and broadens its influence in that region. A blood-stained dollar is still a dollar and the very most of you all would be finally eager too that it wanders into your pocket and not someone else’s, if you officially cry out loud and shed tears or not.
