Mazda Motor Corp said Tuesday that it will unveil its Mazda TAKERI next-generation midsize sedan concept car at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show. Mazda will also hold the Japan debut of the new CX-5 crossover SUV equipped with the full array of Mazda's breakthrough SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY as well as other new technologies and production models.
The 2011 Tokyo Motor Show will run from Dec 3 to Dec 11 at the Tokyo Big Sight.
The Mazda TAKERI exploits Mazda's new design language, "KODO - Soul of Motion," to bring a new level of strength and allure to sedan styling. The TAKERI features the full array of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY, including the efficient and powerful new SKYACTIV-D clean diesel engine, to deliver vigorous performance and a comfortable ride desired in a sedan. The combination of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and electric devices – such as Mazda's idling stop system, i-stop, and a new regenerative braking system – enable the Mazda TAKERI to achieve excellent fuel economy.

Looks pretty much the same as any Toyota/ Nissan/ midsized sedan, though the new catchphrase Kodo - Soul of Motion is better than Zoom Zoom. Wonder if they have to pay any royalties to Kodo, that taiko band for that?

Mazda has never been too popular in Japan and could never boast with prominent sales, although I always liked Mazda and I don't think they are bad and Mazda would deserve higher ranking. Especially in these days when Toyota, Honda is in the headlines for their recalls. Nissan I think is the same thing in some way but they are much more skilled in hiding their defects. Normally they successfully apply the old recipe, they fix the defects that should have classify for recall in the service for money.

Mazda might not be the top auto maker in Japan but they sure as hell beat Ford and al other U.S. brands hands down.

OOoooo...it sure looks nice. The description makes me wanna get one besides despite the fact that it's deisel. If it was electrically powered only, that'd be really nice. XD

@SamaraiBlue Not any of the stations in my area in Nagoya. They have various levels of unleaded and kerosene. According to some 2009 data, about 0.2% of passenger cars in Japan are diesel.

Ford made $1.6 billion in profit for the third quarter. Their stocks are solid. Ford must be doing something right. Not much can be said of Mazda's lack of profit.

With a diesel engine, it will not be sold in Japan. They do not sell it at the pumps.

If they make it perform as well as it looks, they may have a hit. Some how when it comes to the Mazda final product, the execution is usually lacking.

It's going to be a good show this year. Lots of new tech. I guess Mazda gave up on it's Hydrogen cars. Too bad.
