THis how it really is, 99% of the employees are student on Visa,s. Visa,s Holder are only allow to work 20 hours per week at the Australian minimal working rate. that is $24 per hour. If they work more then 20 hours they are kick out of the Country for breaking their Visa condition. This is follow to the word. The franchisees ( I will call the Boss) pressures the worker into working more hours by telling him he will get bad shifts and and less hours or dismiss. The worker say that he will loss his visa. The boss tells the work that he can adjust the rate of pay to suit the legal amount he is allow to earn on the visa. So the worker ( who is young person in a strange Country) agree but only because of the fret of loss of work. As soon has the viva holder goes over the 20 hours the boss start to program of Blackmail. So in the end the young viva holder is working 40 per week for $12per hour. The reason why this has been allow to to happen for the last 10 years is the Extreme Racism these young people encounter while living in Australia and at work. THey are scared to go to the Authorites due to the perception that the most Australian are racist and the Government worker will cancel his or her Viva. Their is word that 7/11 are facing charges of Slavery. The evident is so compelling.

Doesn't Oz have a minimum wage law?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Under the franchise agreement, the head office takes 57% of gross profit ......

From their 43% takings, the franchisee............

The franchisee, according to this article, does not get "43% takings", it gets the remaining 43% of the GP.

Nessie: Yes Australia has a minimam wag law it is $24 per for worker 21 years and older. I don,t know the rate per hour for younger but 16 years of age would be on $18.

I also have to say 7 Eleven Australia Franchise was sold by 7&I holdings Tokyo and Have no connection at all with & Eleven Australia. 7&I holdings also sold off their American Franchise when Franchisees owners were Goal for 7 years for doing the same thing what is happening in Australia.

Harry_Gatto In Australia 7 Eleven only sell items you can not buy Alchole They don,t sell lotteries nor pay bills or buy travel and entertainment tickets. So the Franchisee get 43% of what in the till And that is the takings.

Did not know 7 and iHoldings sold off those systems.

John-san. I don't think you understand the concept of revenue, gross profit and net profit.

I know some of 7 - Eleven and Petrol Stations’ Convenience store’s Indian students’ worker because I sold used Computer to them. I visit their home for fixing Computer for free of charge. Their apartments are very old and dirty. Some of land lords refused to rent to Indian Students because they live more than real estate agent allowed to live at apartment or home. Most of Indian students share apartment with their fellow Indian students and they share 7 to 10 peoples at two bed room apartment. I heard many story from them. I’m really sorry for them.

Most of 7 - Eleven employees in the City are Indian students and the 7 - Eleven local operators are also Indian ethnic Australian residents. Exploiting cheap labor on Indian students in Australia is not just 7 - Eleven and BP, United and other Petrol Stations’ Convenience stores too. They were paid $ 7 - $ 12 per hour. They were recruited by Indian agents. I told them you can complain to Fair Work Ombudsman and you can get all your under paid wages but they do not want problem because they are applying for PR (permanent resident visa). The Indian students and Indian migrant have only two jobs opportunity in Australia one is Taxi driver and another one was shop attendant at 7 - Eleven or Petrol Stations’ Convenience store. Some do not want to drive Taxi because it was dangerous and they choose to work in Convenience store 7 - Eleven and Petrol station for half of Australian citizen's wage. Taxi driver doesn't better than Convenience store’s attendant because they earn around $ 7 - $ 10 per hr but they can negotiate with passenger for Taxi fare which goes direct into their pocket. The 7 - Eleven and Petrol stations’ Convenience store operators exploiting cheap labor on Indian students are not new and it has been for more than decade.

Exploiting cheap labor in Australia was not only on Indian Student and also Chinese students, Japanese, Taiwanese and Korean backpackers too. They were exploited by their own compatriot business owners. Japanese backpacker girl was paid only $ 7 by Japanese restaurant owner. She should have received minimum wage for Hospitality worker $ 17.29 per hr and get $ 2.01 per hr more for working evening shift.

Running Business in Australia is very expensive because rent and employees costs are higher than any other developed countries. So business owners are turning to overseas students and backpackers for to profit. The Union demanding annual wages increase has sent Australian workers to one of the world highest paid workers in the world and running business in Australia is tough. I don’t surprise about employers broken the law. However, 7 – Eleven Convenience store operators’ exploiting on Indian students was evil minded pure greedy than just for to make some profits.

Japan and the USA have the lowest minimum wage out of all OECD surveyed countries. Australia and New Zealand have the best minimum wage. Take in to account the ridiculous prices for goods in Japan and you wonder how anyone can live properly in this country on the minimum wage. ( actually they can't )

It is not just students and young people who are on minimum wage in Japan. Many older skilled workers are forced in to this wage structure through job losses and business failures. Don't worry, Japanese government will most likely increase the hourly rate by about 10 yen an hour. That should help to buy an extra cup of noodles.

And Australian prices are low?

Nessie: And Australian prices are low ?

Some approx. prices in Australia converted to Yen. 1Kg rump steak 1,465, 500 gram real cheese 517, Rice 1 Kg 173, 5 Kg oranges 433, 650 gm bread 224. Take in to account the wages, then Australia prices are cheap.

There are 2 sides to this, The first is the unconscionable exploitation of students. This must be stopped. But the other side no-one is asking is why students are allowed into Australia with no means of support so they are forced into part time slave labor like this. Australia has unemployment of more than 5 percent so why do these students go to Australia and expect to be able to find work? Maybe students should be forced to show they have the money to survive before letting them in there?? Why are they working at 7-11? I guess jobs are very scarce so they should not go if they are placing themseves at mercy of employers like this. Sonething seems wrong all around. And as for Japan I hesitate to imsgine the amount of exploitation going on. Why are there so many more Chinese staff at convenience stores these days. Lower wages? Why?

*"Australian minimal working rate. that is $24 per hour" Holy crp...what a country!! Beats the 780円 here**

Kenny LyeKawa. Australia minimum wages for Hospitality worker was $ 17.29 per hour for Kitchen hand and Cook can earn as much as $ 43.92 per hour. If you’re casual worker and then minimum wage was $ 21.61 per hour. Also penalty rate will apply if worker was working on weekend, afternoon shift, evening shift and night shift Australia wages are depending on which industry you’re working. Construction, Mining and port workers are highest paid blue collar workers in Australia. The Union blackmails employers for its Union members’ wages pay rate increase and now Australian workers are highest paid workers and less productive in the world. So most of Companies are closing down their factory and moved to overseas.

These 7 – Eleven workers Indian students and employed by Indian operators. Not all 7 – Eleven workers were under paid. Indian employers are always exploiting on Indian students and Indian migrants.
