JAL to resume all domestic flights as early as October

I am not surprised to hear this kind of nonsense from Jal, a company only around because of massive government bailouts.

There is no commercial sense in restoring the full domestic schedule by October. And even less for an airline manager to think it a good idea to get his yield and seat occupation down by using bigger aircraft. And by the way how are you going to do that if you return to a full schedule? There would not be spare planes around. Unless you use the international fleet but those planes are configured differently.

Perhaps you're right, but maybe JAL knows something you don't. In any case, it will be interesting to see whether ANA amps up its flight schedule in anticipation of an uptick in demand.

I like both of these airlines and hope to see them fully return to the skies as soon as possible.

i don’t think ANA is planning anything different. Somebody I know got laid off by ANA yesterday, which means they are not going to restore the network anytime soon

I wonder if JAL has a line of credit or something similar they can draw on from the government to be able to "afford" this expanded schedule. I live near a major airport and see more JAL flights than ANA ones each day, so they must be running on a bare minimum. Both airlines seem to be shuffling their fleets around a bit from day to day to better manage passenger loads. Some days at Itami I'll see a 787-9 and the next day a 787-8 on the same schedule. If nothing else it makes for a bit more interesting plane-spotting. In any case, there are more flights now than there were a coupe of weeks ago.

You're welcome to buy extra carbon offsets yourself if you wish. No need to force your ideology down the throats of others.
