That is actually a surprisingly small decline.

Yet China is much happier having their citizens buy in china instead of japan.

Japans populations alone is not enough to prop up the economy.

Most of the world's most affluent economies are ones with small populations. One of the biggest economic canards around is that bigger is better. It's usually the other way around.
