I love flying experience in an 787, IMHO the best flying experience out there by a large margin, nothing comes close. But the taint of 'Boeing' is going to be hard to overcome.

The 767s were and still are the great ones. It is sad when planes retire. They sure had their share of adventures.

Only flew a couple of times in an A380, I found it very hard to sleep in it, and too many people on board, and definitely doesn't have to smoothness in flight as the Dreamliner.
Anyhow, probably academic now that most airlines can't make A380 viable.

Moot any way as the A380 has been discontinued by Airbus when the final orders are filled.

This reads terribly as it comes off implying JAL wants to also replace the A220, and not add the A220 which is what they offically said. I know JT is just reposting a Reuters article

Looking at JAR's fleet, JAR is pretty much an all Boeing and Bombardier shop, so this restricts their replacement to Boeing and Bombardier models. https://www.jal.com/en/outline/aircraft.html
Airbus is loaded with 7 year worth of order backlog so they won't play a ball game on price negotiations. It's Boeing and Embraer that are desperate for new orders and are willing to cut a deal.

I miss those 747s they retired a decade ago. Sat in the 'bubble' a few times. Good memories and flights were so much cheaper back then. Now I have to transfer in Hong Kong or Incheon to get the best deal to YVR. Nothing beats JAL or ANA for service though. I find with Air Canada, you get middle-aged cabin crew that aren't friendly. Actually, I find most Asian Airlines have beautiful, young, friendly cabin crew. Its the opposite with US or Canadian owned airlines. Looking forward to visiting Canada again when the quarantines and vaccine mandates end for international arrivals.

Ding, ding, ding !!! Exactly. The old 747 is still my favorite airliner for long flight. The newer Boeing models with two huge turbo fans as just plain loud inside. It also seems someone at Boeing went out of their way to make the toilets as loud as possible. No way to sleep when every five minutes you hear this deafening roar from the bathrooms. Older Boeings had quieter commodes.
Another favorite I have ridden across the Pacific is the 727. All three engines in the rear, quiet cabin and tremendous power for the size of the airplane. One I flew on belonged to Continental Air Micronesia, was equipped with fenders on the landing gear wheels, rock screens over small inlets and landing lights and 40 degree flaps. They operated it off 2500 foot coral runways! When I was a passenger it was the highest hour airliner in service anywhere in the world but you would have never known it to look at it. Continental was very proud of that airplane and took great care of it. Continental had these grizzled old pilots (and cabin crew !) who knew how to fly and always had the smoothest landings. The complete opposite of assault landings of Southworst Scarelines.
