The kit, developed by the company's business partner in China and will be put on sale on Monday, is also effective in detecting the virus in patients in early stages of the disease, unlike the current PCR tests, it said.

There you go, a Chinese company profiting from their government's cover up and lies that now affects the whole world. Did anyone see that coming?

Chinese company profiting from their government's

Authoritarian capitalism. A nation ruled by a single party for decades. A result of allowing no opposition. And to think some 'westerners' want authoritarian systems to replace their democratic ones.

In two minds about this. If it is accurate, sure. If it isn't, the last thing we need is a hysteric population overtaxing existing medical resources and demanding treatment on the back of false positives.

Hawaii has drive-through coronavirus testing!

So far only 2 cases.

Korea has had drive through testing for at least a couple of weeks now, why not ask their manufacturer for assistance?

Oh right, my bad, South Korea!

Japan is not interested in seeing more testing as when tests increase in numbers, the potential for an increase in the number of people actually infected will rise, and possibly dramatically as well!

Drive thru testing has nothing to do with the manufacturer of test kits. It's just a way of screening and getting swabs, blood and such without needing to go inside the clinic or hospital. You don't get results right away too

The Chinese company benefitting from the sales of kits is partners with Japanese company importing it and most probably the Japanese partner will make a lot more money than Chinese.

But with the test kit that is the subject of this article, Japan could have the drive thru testing people have in mind.

So, now we have to buy something to test ourselves when it should be free, in order to ensure the safety of all? Typical. The only thing that would surprise me more is to hear that the government gets a kickback from all sales.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

We can't buy it ourselves, says in the article. And testing is now covered by health insurance

Importing these tests, and getting them approved for use are different issues. Unless the government decides to do a "Korea" and fast-track an approval, the importer won't get this on the schedule of approved practices under the terms of the national health insurance system. What is more, there are any number of screening procedures that are currently very close to being produced. Having said that, the Ministry of Health and Welfare is definitely under the pump to get something out there ASAP that can be done much more quickly and cheaply than PCR.

Capitalist even in times of real need ???. Son san is offering the kit for free.

I don't mind. China had earn this through the blood and sweat of battling the virus for the last few months to able to develop such a kit. I don't get why any of you would get so offended when you heard is manufactured in China.

A Chinese made test kit for a Chinese made virus. Anyone see the irony in this?

I would be a wee bit sceptical as to how accurate it will be also.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

It's to be expected. If the virus first came out in another country with similar capability, it's expected that that country will also come up first with a test kit

Fast detection kits depend on detecting antibodies and if properly tested they can be very specific and sensitive, but they have a very strong disadvantage and that is that they take more time from the infection to become positive, they need not only time for the virus to reproduce importantly but also extra time for the immune system to recognize it and produce antibodies that are the ones being detected.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Ah so it wouldn't be appropriate for the mass testing that many call for but would be very helpful in emergency situations where fast results are desirable

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Cross-check at designated clinic is necessary (compulsory, according to the current guideline) regardless of test result. It's more psychological thing. If you want to "feel good" having some info about your clinical status (even with a chance of error), the kit use may be an option.

Even if positive? Surely antibody test is very accurate? I was thinking use the fast kit in emergency situations then use the regular kit only if all other tests are negative. But I don't know anything about this field.

Err, i thought the virus won't be present in blood?

Did they manage to make an antibody test and selling it without the whole world knowing?

Made me chuckle. Agree with the comment.

Time to pull our supply chains, technology and pharmaceutical, out of that cesspool where the Wuhan Virus started.

China created this virus with a purpose.

They're now selling us the kit that can detect whether you have it

Can you smell a rat ?

Next they will be selling us the cure for only those who can do something for them...

The results are out in about 10 to 15 minutes, THAT has been noted in the press as well!

Guess a lot of folks just dont want to accept the fact that Japan is keeping testing down to a minimum, to keep IT off of the list of countries banned from travel!
