i have heard about nissan having access to tech --

but

it was not the electric vehicle tech

it's the nuclear tech

at mitsubishi

and they don't want japan's nuclear

tech in the hands of foreign governments

in this news article, mitsubishi is congratulating nissan

for taking one for the team, and keeping japan nuclear tech

in the hands of the japanese

Thanks for your useless remarks. Nissan is not advanced in electrical cars. GM funnily enough brought the concept of electric cars in the 80s but didn't go through to production.

If anything Tesla is more dominant in their achievements in electric cars.

The Volt is a GM car, not FCA.

The Fiat 500e is a tiny car that can't scale up, nor can it be used in other application like hybrid. IMHO, at the moment, between Nissan and Mitsubishi, the alliance (Nissan, Renault, Mitsubishi), is far more advanced than competitors.

Nissan commercialised the Altra in 1998, the technology went on into....

Take a look at the books of Renault and Nissan royalties paid from Renault into Nissan for what?

This article is spot on with its heading, FCA, like any other group has to go down the electrification route eventually, because China has made it mandatory, and it's not getting any easier in the EU with total group carbon rules either.

The author of this article is not a business correspondent nor is she a specialist on the automobile industry. Yesterday, I went through all major English language reports in financial papers and automotive industry publications on the breakdown of merger. These specialised publications focused on French government demands. Nissan was barely mentioned.

FCA itself explicitly blamed the French government, not Nissan and not Saikawa.

Please do not overstate ghosn's "contribution".

The electric car was already conceptually introduced decades ago in France, UK and Germany

Later, near the end of the 20th century, AMA and GM, as well as Honda and Toyota produced some early models.

However quantitative manufacturing of "electric" vehicles was largely kaiboshed by the oil monopoly in those days.

Ghosn was just going with the flow - in step with other cutting edge manufacturers, like Toyota, etc.

if he had not introduced it to Nissan - someone else would have.

What do u expect of saikawa ???always stealing someone's hard work like e.cars ,the leaf and talking loudly that he is the man that he did the work which he did not. Nissan wasn't consulted on the proposed merger between its alliance partner Renault and Fiat Chrysler, but the Japanese automaker's reluctance to go along may have helped bring about the surprise collapse of the talks.

While Nissan Motor Co had a weaker bargaining position from the start, with its financial performance crumbling after the arrest last year of its star executive Carlos Ghosn, it still had as its crown jewel the technology of electric vehicles and hybrids that Fiat Chrysler wanted.

The board of Renault, meeting Thursday, didn't get as far as voting on the proposal, announced last week, which would have created the world's third biggest automaker, trailing only Volkswagen AG of Germany and Japan's Toyota Motor Corp.

When the French government, Renault's top shareholder with a 15% stake, asked for more time to convince Nissan, Fiat Chrysler Chairman John Elkann abruptly withdrew the offer.

Renault is in financial trouble.

And now it has been forced via the French Government who holds 15% Shares

to prosecute Ghosn for over 11 millions Euros worth of grievous mis-use of funds . . . so, baturally,

with Nissan out of the picture. Chrys-Fiat withdrew their interest .

Saikawa just booted the bloody Gaijin, why would they agree to other Gaijins coming? Not sure about the numbers for Nissan's Leaf car, but the best one nowadays would be the GE Volt and it might even become the No1 by numbers as well.

Saikawa's victory is now complete. Ghosn is out. Renault is begging Nissan to stay in the Alliance and FCA is headed down because the they have no advance tech. Renault had to choose between FCA and Nissan and they chose Nissan. A sweet sweet victory for Saikawa.

Sell Nissan stock.

Don't buy their products... they're not going to be here long anyway, so buying a Nissan product doesn't make sense - as you'll need to go to the Scrap yard for new bits.

How can you be part of a merger and not be consulted? That’s SO strange even to imagine. We’re back to square number 1: blame Ghosn. When it makes you look bad, blame the bad guy. If Nissan’s Japan’s pretty face then she’s starting to look ugly.

There's a political background here: the italian populist government is very anti-french ( its a tradition in the italian far right since Mussolini) and the relations between the two countries are certainly not an asset for such a complex merger... Several others industrial projects between the two countries are by now at odds, like the shipbuilding industry, or the railway tunnel under the Alps between Lyon and Milano...

I am certain that Fiat et Co would like to have a chunk of japanese hi tech.

Fiats falling sales figures combined with hardly any new launches over the last 4-6 years, is a good indicator of their dire position.

Rebranding Chrysler cars and selling them in Europe, will not trick clients.

Really don't like these cringe worthy articles that "supposedly" have all the behind the scenes info.

We see this kind of dribble about how J-politicians play & plan "behind" the scenes in international politics etc, can be rather embarrassing to read.

Its like watching those way too numerous tv shows that have gaijin fawning Japanese this that & some other thing with all the wonderous expressions of "talents" popping up in the corners LOL!!

BS Japanese propaganda. Renault developed its own electric engines tech independently of Nissan which is commercialized with the Zoe car. The car ended up to be nominated the best electric car in England in 2014, 2015, 2016 et 2017. So Fiat Chrysler did not need Nissan to get access to this kind of tech, this is Japanese propaganda to help them feel they are relevant somewhere.

Simply... best to part ways. Technology sharing in this case is "lopsided" to say the least and the French government admitted that Renault is government run business when the Fiat deal was abruptly halted. Stop pursuing idealism and hopes and stay practical and pragmatic.
