This was on the Japanese news a few weeks ago, and whomever is responsible for it I hope is caught, they not only stole the roe, but the manner in which they did it was disgusting at best.
The perps slit the bellies of the salmon, took out the roe, and threw the bodies of the fish on a river bank to rot.
They stole something like a ton to a ton and a half of roe from a number of facilities.

The price of salmon has always been high even when the catch was rich.
fishermen just like farmers always look for a reason to fleece the populace
with the tacit approval of the powers that be.
if the catch is low, why not import more, forgot that the imported stuff won’t be cheap either. A good example is imported Mexican small avocado going for 158yen which is
ridiculous, doubt it cost even 25yen in Mexico.
i would love to eat avocado everyday but not stupid enough to shell 158yen for a poor
quality product. Enough with the ripoff

Saury to hear this.

Import more salmon from Norway, Chile etc. And the problem will be resolved! It's as easy as that. It was after all Norway who first introduced Salmon to the Japanese sushi! Make yourself a favor and acknowledge the country who introduced salmon for you.

Human beings are going to drive all animals to extinction. Would it actually hurt to eat just a little bit less meat and fish? And do we really need to eat 'delicacies'?

Norway's saltfish.
Very popular in the Iberian region and Caribbean. Great for curries and bacalhau dishes.
Or jellyfish, lots of protein.

That's what happens when you feel entitled to everything in the ocean and overfish for so long. And I've already heard a couple of old codgers grumbling, "I might not be able to eat my saury! It's unbelievable!"

Japan raising prices? No way! Shocker!!!

Prices on wild salmon from Alaska are sky high in the US as well. Last year was a record season, inventories were extremely low going in, you can’t do that every year. It is natural variability,

Be sure to let’s all know when you decide how much we can all eat. I will then let you know how much you can breath - all that CO2 you are exhaling is destroying my planet.
Well I suppose you are “entitled” to your opinion. The number of fish available is due to the lower water temperature. Which of course is surprising because the pause in the global man made climate catastrophe is supposedly due to the belief that the ocean is soaking up massive amounts of heat.

Probably like tuna, sardines, bonito, eels, crabs and so many other fish they are being fished before arriving the Japanese coast by Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean boats!

with the plastic count in fish increasing, that might drive people away to save fish stocks more than any law

It's complete BS. Every year they say the same thing so they can just hoard their supply and gouge their customer base. Japan is about profit and loss. Their system is very old and outdated, so of course they will lose every year and tack it on to their customers.

I am sorry the hear this.
Good news from my neck of the woods, though. California Salmon, written off just a few years ago, is making a comeback. This year looks to be beyond our wildest dreams. Just goes to show what a cooperative association between public, private and conservationist interest can achieve.

Educator: "Me: So overfishing causes sea temperature changes?!?"
Nope. But there's still overfishing of these and many fish, no? Same attitude.
