as someone who doesn't own, and has never owned, a TV, it's somewhat boggling to me....

I never understood how the Japanese TVs, with Korean panels (yes, that is correct), have a cost between 2 to 4x times the price of the rest of the manufacturers, not only compared to the Korean ones.
Just go to BicCamera or Yodobashi, and check how come a SONY tv, with Korean panel (QD-OLED) are costing exactly x4 times more than the same TV, but made by LG or Samsung, for example.
I always laugh of their prices in those electric stores.
Ridiculous and callous at the same time.
