Aeon Co, Japan's top supermarket operator, said Wednesday it will release its first set of low-priced, private-brand home electronics goods codeveloped with Sanyo Electric Co on May 27.
The Topvalu-brand electronics products will appear on the shelves of such outlets as Jusco, Saty and Daiei supermarkets. The new products include rechargeable batteries, to be sold at 680 yen for two AA batteries, and a package of a recharger and two batteries, priced at 1,780 yen, as well as electric hot plates at 8,980 yen, clothes irons at 5,980 yen, and hair driers for 4,980 yen.
Aeon plans to launch a second series in September, including rice cookers and vacuum cleaners.
Aeon and Sanyo have tried to improve their products by listening to the opinions of homemakers and other customers. For instance, the product life of the rechargeable batteries has been made far longer than those of existing products.
