After 91 years, Ford's Australian car production line ends

Great. Another Western industrial concern destroyed by unions and socialism.

Ford, General Motors Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. announced in 2013 that they were quitting Australia and shedding 6,600 jobs because of high production costs, distance from potential export markets and increasing competition.

Where does it say that unions and socialism led to the demise of Ford Australia?

The plant has been destroyed by globalisation. With lower tariffs it is now cheaper to import foreign cars than to make them in Australia. The winners are the Japanese and Koreans working for Toyota etc. The losers are the Australian workers.

In a free market the Australians would be able to increase their food exports to Japan to compensate for increased car imports. But, alas, Japan imposes massive tariffs on food imports so the Australians lose again.

Good memories from the Australian auto age. Gone but not forgotten.
