Were they not produced by Takata under Takata's spec at a plant run by Takata

I don't think that the USED chewing gum, found among other similar garbage during the inspection of the airbags produced in Mexico (read the reports), is according to the Japanese specifications.

I don't think you'd find such stuff in a Made in Japan product either.

Making vital safety elements in a third world country, by people paid third world salaries, and while claiming you're getting Japanese quality, was an incredibly bad business decision on the side of Takata.

Great way to escape from paying dues. I feel bad for that actual and future victims.

One poorly run Mexican plant can really destroy a whole global corporation it seems. Globalization at its' finest. Not worth the cheaper costs if you ask me to produce in Mexico.

And how is it Mexico's fault ?

and the plant just happened to be in Mexico.

I don't really see how it is Mexico's fault, maybe you can enlighten.

Another dishonest Japanese company bites the dust. Fallout from the eighties.

Japan's governance is shocking, learn from this.

You know, when corruption ruined a big Japanese company and then the result is that it gets sold off in bits in pieces to a Chinese company...

Well you guys really messed up this one.

”The company says on its website that its products have kept people safe"

Except those the products and company killed or injured. The fact that they are STILL unwilling to admit that and try to blame the victim is why they are now in this mess.

I feel sorry for the guys who bought it at a 33% rise last Friday. The stock is now frozen.

Yeah being involved in an international company that has tried different low cost locations for manufacturing and also call centers.. don't bother unless you are in a well educated well developed area or have considerable non local staff to monitor.. it just ends up costing more, as the second you leave the building the quality in service and product halves.

My Subaru Forester had to go into the garage here in Japan to have it's Takata airbag disconnected. It will be another year before it is actually replaced. This is the passenger side only. The Subaru staff looked frazzled, I imagine they had had a lot of unhappy customers....

Takata's management is disgraceful, they had a responsibility to send permanent engineering staff and QA staff to the Mexico facility.

On the other hand, if you're in the stock market, this may end up being an interesting stock play. Takata has too much machinery for this to go to waste. If Takata can either restart business or sell it to another company and produce things safely, the resulting re-start company stock could give big profits.

Evem if Takata doesn't change the management team much the stock will probably recover strongly once it is relisted in the future. Japanese companies are just a big old boys network, I don't think they'd sever their ties with Takata permanently even after this scandal.

Would driving be safer without Airbags ?

Want to have a successful local company...buy an international company and inflict Japanese management on it, works every time.

Japan should adopt Einstein's "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" as their national motto.

large corporatins are subject to large recalls, If Takata had more type of ibflators they could still be alive, just remember Samsung with the Note 7, it killed the Note Brand, and WV lie about ecology it almost killed that company.

bowing to apologize, as my old cockney mum would say "old airbags" pun intended.
