I also "doubt their strategy." I couldn't go skiing in Hokkaido in Feb. once because it was booked up weeks in advance. I checked to find that it flies the exact same number of flights daily, regardless of high or low seasons! In other words, it turns away customers (like me) at busy periods and during slow periods it flies half-empty planes.

Why would Skylark pay "heavy penalties" if Airbus was the one that cancelled?

Apparently it's mutual, because Skymark can't afford to make payments.

Skymark can't afford the aircraft, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private. Negotiations between the two sides continue about compensation, and options range from delaying delivery to outright cancellation, another person involved in the talks said Losing the Skymark order extends a drought for the A380, which has failed to attract a new airline customer in two years and came away with no new business this month at the Farnborough Air Show, typically a forum for deals.

Bad Translation Last night the J-News was reporting SkyMark canceled the order by fax yesterday.
