Do they plan to decrease their fares as well? A quick search will still find that both ANA and of course JAL consistently are the most expensive carriers to Japan.

ANA to increase international services

regardless of increase in oil prices?

If you fly a lot, you will know that ANA have raised their game to a very high level over the last 2-3 years - they offer excellent in-flight servive, very simple booking and check in procedures online, hence they now have have the operating profits to be able to this and retain a solid customer base. They do not need to cut prices, they are now able to charge a premium. Fuel surcharges are here to stay, deal with it or don't fly. Sorry, nobody HAS to fly. If you want to fly on the cheap, Jetstar Japan have started up, Peach are about to start flying. Long haul, well, just get on UA or Delta if you are on a budget to the USA, Aeroflot if you want to fly to Europe. Plenty of people WILL pay a premium to fly in comfort.

ANA has raised their game but lost customers. I make over 100 flights per year and none of them are on ANA any longer. Their service used to be the best but they now only care about money. I threw my platinum card in the trash bin this year and will never fly them again.

Sorry Yanee - Totally disagree with you.

I threw my platinum card in the trash bin this year and will never fly them again.

I do fly with them (when they offer reasonable prices) but I haven't used my ANA mileage card for years simply because they're not permanent. If I travel with them, I use my Virgin card because you don't lose points as long as you use or collect points less than 3 years after your last trip.

What with fuel surcharges and taxes now, mileage points are practically useless now because they won't cover those rip-off charges.

Plenty of people WILL pay a premium to fly in comfort.

And plenty of people have yet to find that tree which produces bank notes.

@Pukey2 ah the US have found a forest of trees to print those bank notes, they continue to print flat out 24/7

Will be flying with ANA in April to Europe. Main reason for choosing them was that they have upgraded the interior of their int'l fleet, leg space is now 34 inch, entertainment system with 10 inch monitor, video on demand etc. Still they were second in price only to SAS, which got less leg space and their entertainment system looks...outdated.

Their service used to be the best but they now only care about money. I threw my platinum card in the trash bin this year and will never fly them again.

From what others have said (and recent reviews) their service has not become lower in recent years, and the fact a business is caring about making money and protecting its share holders is a good thing. I think they set a great example for airlines, an industry where a 2% profit margin is considered fantastic.

I think it is going to be interesting to see how these new LCC's effect profits for the big 2. Once the LCC revolution begins is rarely goes away, look at (almost) every other aviation market in the world.

Any increase in the opportunity to fly my transpacific routes on non-US carriers is welcome news. Flew the 787 on domestic routes a couple times already and it would be great to be able to use it, even if it means transitting through SJC, SEA or BOS (JAL).

A hint, you can fly on ANA by booking on the UAL website and pay less money. I am looking forward to flying on the 787.

Agreement is not necessary. Try to spend weeks of your life on airplanes, yes even in business. The flight begins at the ticketing counter, not on the plane Much better services are offered on Singapore Air and Asiana. If you enter the United mileage club you get the best point system overall and receive point from all of the carriers. I have been flying ANA for over 20 years and I know what their service was like even 5 or 10 years ago. It doesn't even compare now.

Hope they start flying to Australia again. The JAL/Qantas monopoly is getting boring.

Have to retract my former comment about price: the ANA site didn't show the tax until the very end, thus making it 20.000 yen more expensive per person, also it was still cheaper than what the travel agency quoted. Still, leg space sounds comfortable, another, cheaper option would have been finnair, but I couldn't get tickets for the desired flight dates.

Basically I agree with ANA's strategy that they would increase the capacity of the international route since the demand of flight should increase. A lot of person are expected to fly to oversea due to the support of strong yen in terms of biz and privates.

Please reduce your prices, the JP government should investigate for running price fixing.

@gogogo: Interesting comment. Have ANA been accused of this? It has certainly been prevalent in Europe and the USA. That was proved though and the airlines fined accordingly. I have yet to see ANA or JAL been drawn into this, so if you could point me in the right direction on the web to read about this I would be very grateful.

@gogogo: In fact the cargo arm of JAL has been indicted in such a case, but not the passenger division. ANA have never been involved, although the list of airlines that have is quite large. Please do your research properly in the future or refrain from making such comments just because you happen to dislike the current pricing structure. As I said before, nobody is forcing YOU to fly.

theResident: If it is cheaper to fly to LA than to Osaka there is quite obviously a price issue, you can't blame "fuel" on that one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@gogogo: OK - you go on the web and fine me fare that is cheaper (INCLUDING ALL SURCHARGES) from Tokyo to Osaka than to LA. Speak to you sometime in the distant future. For the first weekend is March, you can fly to Osaka and back on ANA or JAL for 22,000 yen, all charges included. Find me a comparable fare to LA and I'll go and watch a couple of NBA games!

obviously I mean find me a fare that is cheaper to LA than Osaka!
