Except all loses are picked up by the Japanese taxpayer, so why would they care?

ANA is a fully private, internationally traded company. I think they would care a lot if investors started to shriek.

@JeffLee it's not that mitsubishi doesn't have engineering capabilities of making a Hugely successful Jet. the thing it lacks is proper corporate governance which is taking a HUGE TOLL on the company. they need to fix that. it's a shame that the deliveries of the jet launched in 2008 is postponed 6 times and then frozen, frequent change of directors on the project which added to confusion, bad judgement of safety standards and safety regulations and lastly, being overambitious. most of their problems which made them delay the deliveries by 4 times would have been solved if they used the cockpit from boeing. using cockpits from other manufacturers isn't a new practice. it's a widely adopted practice which saves both time and money. no aircraft manufacturer makes a jet from 100% their own parts. if things go this way, it's game over.

@JeffLee you do realize that space Jet is successfully tested and fully production ready right? the only reason it was frozen for now due to fall in demand. ANA is actually in a better position compared to other airways (but losses can't be ignored) companies i know. but.. yea. Mitsubishi should learn a thing or 2 from Honda on how they did a better job in making a commercially successful Jet.

I assume that the next fiscal year will see a big surge in travel demand, as more and more people get vaccinated, allowing them to travel more freely, and the coronavirus risk subsides. But then, what do I know.

Strange story, as it doesn't mention what model of smaller of aircraft. It should have ordered Bombardier CRJ-900s or the Bombardier-Airbus a220s a while back, instead of waiting for ages and not receiving the SpaceJets. When nationalism determines your suppliers, then you deserve whatever losses ensue.
