"Obama already got the economy revitalized"

Ha ha ha ha ha ha, you don't check facts before posting, do you, Stranger? Even CNN admits this is the worst recovery since WW2.

Toyota goes to the Japanese government and says, "Hey. I want you to make food twice as expensive for the entire nation so we can sell an extra thousand cars in the US."

Toyota doesn't even have to ask; Abe and Kuroda do this exact thing for them, and the compliant media obediently gush joyfully at Japan Inc's profits while the average salaryman endure a higher cost of living and the erosion of their salaries.

It isn't even debatable: since 2012, the Bank of Japan has repeatedly printed money every time the yen has failed to fall as much as they've wanted it to. Exporters like Toyota -- probably the one company that has benefited most by this scheme -- have seen their stock price and profits mentioned in nearly every article here. They still come out ahead even if their employees have to pay more for food and energy. And they are paying more; just go to the supermarket and compare prices to those of 2012. Compare product sizes. What we're seeing with the government's relentless push for inflation is the same concentration of wealth in the top 1-5% that we have seen in the inflationary West for the past 40-50 years.

This is not to say that Japan is uniquely guilty: just about all the world's governments do this to some extent. Debase the currency, pretend that the resulting inflation is a force of nature and not deliberate government policy, and watch your debts lose value while the public is left holding the bag.

No, but Trump and the Republican Congress will set into motion policies that will revitalize the U.S. economy, which can only help lift the world economy.

Obama already got the economy revitalized, and any improvements over the next two years will be a result of his policies. Trump's policies won't start kicking in until at least then.

so the US feds are going to raise rates, US economy is doing better than most economies and the US wonders why the $ is strengthening. They want a robust strong economy but with a weak currency at the same time. LOL heres an idea let blame others for currency manipulation as an excuse to get what we want. LOL. EU and Japan are basically copying the same QE policies that the US used for over 10yrs and theyre calling them manipulators!? F hypocrites.

Americas deficits arent asias problems its Americas addiction to cheap imports and overspending.

Trump will place teh world into a severe recession or mild to moderate depression. Americans will see the same same fate as Japan. Declining prices, consumers not spending, higher taxes on teh little and middle class. But unlike Japan where the damage is internal to Japan. Trump will sink teh world coming the New ANTI-CHRIST is alive and Well and takes over the world 01/20/2017 We are all screwed!

People who complain about currency manipulation are just ... seriously... lame. A competent journalist could show that US companies were losing to Japanese companies when the dollar was at 300 yen to the dollar, at 150 yen to the dollar, and at 70 to the dollar. I have seen it all, and apparently people in the US actually believe that Toyota goes to the Japanese government and says, "Hey. I want you to make food twice as expensive for the entire nation so we can sell an extra thousand cars in the US."

Come on. Get real. A few hundred dollars knocked off the price of a Corolla is not going to make someone choose it over a Ford if the Ford vehicle is actually a better vehicle. After financing, the price difference amounts to pennies a month.

Granted, the calculus might be different for other countries, but Japan is a modern consumer society. This kind of accusation of yen manipulation is not credible to me.

If Trump REALLY wants to make a difference and do it fairly, how about taking away China's Most Favored Nation status or treating China like a developed economy rather than a developing economy? Korea stopped taking aid more than a decade ago, and Japan ... what... four or five decades ago?? When is China going to "move out of the basement and get a real job?"

just as Trump announces, that he will drop TPP the day he takes office....

“Weaker currencies will give an excuse for Trump to blame Asian countries, particularly China, for manipulating exchange rates,”

Only if Trump read the news lately about how China is trying to appreciate their currency instead of depreciating it. They have one out of the three "currency manipulation" criteria while some other countries on the list have two. Essentially, China's doing what America wants them to do with their currency, yet it still is a problem? Let's also not forget that the context of this article is that Trump will cause the US dollar to appreciate..........and he may blame countries for why the USD is stronger than their own currencies?!?! What about America's "quantitative easing" methods? Isn't that currency manipulation?
