That can’t be, Yaris in the US is a rebadged Mazda2 since 2014

You’re confusing it with the Demio.

@garypen

My BIL owned a Vitz in Japan, and a neighbor owned a Yaris in the States, so I could compare.

I can't see the name Gazoo, and not think of the little green alien on the old Flintstones cartoons.

The Yaris hasn't been sold in Japan ever seeing as it's been a foreign market only badge, and isn't for sale yet. The Vitz is not the same as the Yaris.

Even then, the Yaris is said to replace both the vitz and the aqua. (The aqua sells heeps more than the vitz just so you're aware.)

Obviously not Toyota in Japan. The Yaris has been advertised incessantly on Japanese TV. (The commercials are so annoying, when I'm not watching the screen, the audio sounds like an Apple commercial.) Plus, they are on the street. The model is also on the Toyota.jp website. So, it's most definitely on sale in Japan.

The Vitz and Yaris have been almost identical for many years. My BIL owned a Vitz in Japan, and a neighbor owned a Yaris in the States, so I could compare. They were basically the same car. (I wouldn't own either, as they were both pieces of crap.)

While the Yaris is obviously replacing the Vitz, I find it doubtful that it will replace the Aqua, at least not right away. The Vitz actually has a disclaimer that production has been discontinued, on the website. The Aqua does not. They may phase out the Aqua at some point. It just doesn't appear to be right now.

The GR (*Gazoo R****acing***Yaris shown is a high-performance variant of the Yaris which is powered by a Gazoo Racing-built, turbocharged and direct/port-injected 1.6-litre G16E-GTS engine. Toyota going outside again for engines, as with BMW for their Supra and Subaru for their GT86.

Explain to me how going to their in-house racing team is "going outside again for engines"... Its the same thing BMW does with their M badge, would you claim that they are going outside of BMW for their engines?

My car is an SR 400

Maybe it is the prissy way the models have to hold their hands that is so irritating. Oh, along with blatant sexploitation...the usual here. L'sigh.

what would you suggest as props?

Simply irresistible !

Robert Palmer must be smiling, watching this from the afterlife.

Following the trend of small, powerful, tech-ed to the hilt AWD being offered everywhere now.

Friend just bought in November a 2nd hand Citroen C5 1600cc turbo that offers tech and specs that only luxury vehicles had just a handful of years ago.

My 5 min test drive blew the cobwebs.

Yaris - hatchback used with some success in motor sports, with extensive modifications

Varis - make of body modification kits for variety of JDMs

Names look very similar...

Not bad looking car, but surely I know for a fact that Japan has more lovely girls. Not saying these gals are bad but not the best as in years past. I should know, I met and married one.

If they had shown the Supra with an encircling bevy of the fairer sex, I would have become a believer but a...Yaris ...

Is there a mirror running down the middle of the car and only its a relection?;o)

@Yrral No one is forcing those women to do anything they don't want to. Remember the feminists vs F1 models situation a couple of years back.

Ahhh... the Auto Salon. So much better than the Tokyo Motor Show which just showcases concept cars that you can’t have.

The Auto Salon showcases crazy modded cars that you can’t have.

And the amount of fabric on the girls seems to diminish in surface area every year.

For many if not most the car is the prop.

"I'm pleased we've made all components of the sport-type vehicle by ourselves, unlike our 86 and Supra sport vehicle models" that were co-developed with another automaker, Toyota President Akio Toyoda told reporters.

The 86 was a collaboration with Subaru and the Supra with BMW(?). Toyota own something like 10% of Subaru stock as a cross holding. I bet Toyoda's words sounded better in Japanese and I doubt a dig at Subaru is intended.

The hot hatch in the photo looks pretty good and will be a really fun car. In Japan, it's aimed at an ever-shrinking demographic, so they'll have their work cut out selling it. I like cars, but I think its time we moved away from moving single people short distances in big two-ton boxes.

Used to go to the Auto Salon at Makuhari Messe as an exhibitor. Loved the event. Great for all the family. Not obvious from the photo above, but there were plenty of unusual things to see.

Two male middle-aged executives in triumphant pose, and a bunch of young girls used as sexy decoration. Nothing changes here.

The Yaris is exceeding popular in Japan as a car to run around the neighbourhood doing errands. The photo and selection of the car is newsworthy because all the parts are made by Toyota. This is an interesting development. No doubt to counter some of the quality issues Toyota has been having. The Toyota brand in Japan is focused on reliability and has been a key to the success of the company. TheLexus brand is for those who want more excitement!

A Toyota Yaris....wow?

He's posing with a car?! I don't see any car in this photo.

But I'll keep searching... diligently.
