Broadcasters to hold TV program trade show

Public broadcaster Japan Broadcasting Corp (NHK) and six commercial broadcasters will hold a television program trade show in October. The event, backed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, will coincide with the three-day International Drama Festival in Tokyo 2008, to be held in the Japanese capital's Roppongi district from Oct 22.

The trade show is aimed at selling Japanese TV programs such as animated cartoons and drama series to overseas buyers, mainly from Asian economies including China, South Korea and Taiwan, as well as the United States and Canada.

The commercial broadcasters participating in the event are the five Tokyo-based key stations -- Fuji Television Network Inc, Nippon Television Network Corp, Tokyo Broadcasting System Inc, TV Asahi Corp, and TV Tokyo Corp --and satellite broadcaster WOWOW Inc.

The seven broadcasters are planning to hold a similar trade fair next year and on in line with the International Drama Festival.

TV series Change and Absolute Boyfriend need to come to North America. They are more interesting than the current prime time fare offered here. Canadian broadcasters, buy!
