The day when the head of Sony has to talk about the company making money in finance, banking and insurance is the day that it should be obvious to everyone that they have truly lost the electronics business -- the core competency that built their world-wide brand -- to the U.S. (Apple), Korea, and even Europe. The fat lady may not be signing, but she is humming very, very loud.

Reminds of Japanese proverb : "rainen no koto o ieba oni ga warau" (Don't talk of next year the devil laughs at you).

Not good enough.
There is a tendency in the Japanese society to dwell on the old, natsukashii when things are tough. If Sony's executives does not understand that the days when Sony was considered number one are over, they should vacate their seats for a younger generation. I am sure they have excellent engineering "DNA" inside, but I also suspect the old, fat-assed codgers that are present everywhere in Japan, are the ones putting the brakes on Sony.

Go Sony!!! Naysayers always deny progress, but Sony is really coming back.

Knox -- absolutely. And investors, especially foreign ones, don't care about platitudes like "spirit" and "DNA". They care about results, which Sony/Hirai have not delivered. It is no wonder their bonds are rated junk.

I frequently buy Sony products for they are cheap. In the US, Korean products are too expensive. More money printing is needed in Japan, indirectly lowering Japanese wages, so that they can compete with Korean products. Japanese electronic products need to be significantly cheaper than Korean products to overcome inferiority in quality.

Sony's downfall began when 3 tops had to resign in order to have 3 Foreigner tops to head the company in 2003. Down Down down, Hirai might have to ask former executives who contributed to Sony's golden era before 2008 red trend, Like people who contributed to New Product Development. What are they doing now? Writing business books? Lecturing for each Japan Inc? Lecturing in universities? Just get them back. If they work for international organizations, they sure can work back.

I try not to be rude here, but I did throw Samsung junks out of my house. Inferiority? What a laugh.
Right back at you

Angry Japanese need to be able to see things as they are. Face the facts. Additional money printing is needed, indirectly lowering Japanese wages. When gradually done, Japanese won't even know it. That's why Big-Japanese Corporations need Abe.

I'm not Japanese FYI. I don't care about JPY or $ or wages. What I care about in this article is that Sony will make a comeback with its superior technology and live up to its spirit. Making wonderful gadgets is what they used to do, and they have been doing now after a decade sleeping. Go Sony!
And leave the economy to Abe and his bureau, as if you have any ideas either.
