Can think of one CEO in Japan who didn't get a raise, can't see his wife and is not likely to ever escape the clutches of "justice" think I'd take 7% rise and forgo the pleasures of visiting Japan.

Nothing wrong with being successful and rich.

I wonder if Carlos Ghosn's prosecutors are reading this article, puts a light on the various renumeration packages leading CEO's get, and the reason such large amounts are payed to them. Ghosn's case should have been an internal matter for the Nissan alliance group and their shareholders. Hopefully the Japanese legal system will realize that corporate governance should be handled internally.

the funny part is there are plenty of sheeples who defend them, even in this thread. culture thing I guess?

Funny when people compare the work a CEO has to do with that of the entry/mid level worker. Should they be paid the same?

This is a big reason why popularism is getting so, well, popular.

I wonder why these keep working all their life with such huge pay.

I mean after 5 years of working with that enormous amount they can retire and enjoy their life for good but they still work even after 65.

You are missing the point Arturo. One is being paid too little and the other is being paid too much.

No, I'm not missing the point at all. The large majority of CEOs have 10-20+ years of experience, work 16+ hour days virtually every day of the week, and have put in their blood, sweat and tears into their chosen field.

We are talking about the modern world where nobody puts a gun to your head and forces you to work. CEOs along with all those below them at any organization, corporation, company in any industry are paid based on what they bring to the table (excluding Japan, obviously).

Arturo, are u ssying the normsl person is not working as hard as the ceo.?

Someone is worth whatever someone is willing to pay them. Not satisfied with your income? Learn more/different skills.

Jealous much?

An entry level, freshly hired college grad can be a hard worker and work long hours. So can a CEO. But what they are working on is apple and oranges. Companies don't pay CEOs millions of dollars a year simply because they want to burn thru money. They pay based on the market, results produced by the CEO (which is why you see ousters, turnovers, etc). Stop making it so elementary as if anyone could step into the CEO role and deserve what they get paid.

If someone is working 2 jobs at 18hrs a day and don't make 400,000yen before tax ... guess what that means? Both of those jobs are not good jobs at all i.e. disposable jobs. And the person working them either has no education, no language skills (if talking about Japan), and certainly has little to no skills or experience in anything worthwhile.

Hi Arturo, I like your profile pic by the way. Please take a look at the photos above again slowly and then you will understand sociopathic narcissism.

Thanks for liking my pic.

I see their photos. I don't care if they are all white, all black, all asian, all men, all women, etc. They all have a long pedigree of experience in the business world. If they were ineffective, useless, or not with a reputation of getting the job done, they would not be making bank in their current roles.

Tired of the comparisons that entry level workers should be getting paid six figure starting salaries to sit at a desk answering phones with no experience.

We need ASAP laws limiting the ratio between the highest and lowest paid in a company to about 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even better, just pay everyone the exact same amount. Entry level, mid level, execs - hell even the owner who founded the company, came up with the idea, took all the risk, used all their money as start-up capital. You people are crazy. There's a reason why people do not get paid the same amount for different jobs and for different levels of experience.

Why so extreme bro? What about a middle ground?

Corporations and stockholders forget that it is NOT the executives that bring in the "money" and "make profit" for the company. Companies exist not to make profit for them only, it is to benefit the customers and consumers first then those who actually "rceived" the money from the customers and consumers, the front line staff and workers, that fed it to the company. Without them, the company will not get the revenue or the profits.

Think what $ 1 Million will do for just 1 hundred employees ($ 100 Thousand each) and how much that will contribute to the national economies (besides tax revenues). They are receiving $10 Million plus, then it can benefit 100 Thousand employees. Even if they were given 1/2 the amount, then it will double the employees that benefit.

Pride and arrogance without humble appreciation of those they "Used" is what corporations now represnt when they misappropriate funds in such a way. While "talent" does have a price.., companies exist because of employees and not executives.

Time to get out the calculator...

The eight-figure packages continue to rise as companies tie more of their CEOs' pay to their stock prices

And yet I bet that CEO pay rose even in companies where the stock price went down.
