I think china has the ability to deal with different policies in different countries. But they must ensure that it is beneficial for the local societies as well, otherwise I am sure the project will run into trouble, sooner or latter.

They're now realizing the same issues that others in the past faced when trying the same things linking lands - corruptions and fighting

How is Japanese shinkansen project in India doing? Any better than Chinese high speed rail in Indonesia?

Folks don't trust China. They understand that China will smile in your face while they stab you in the back. Countries don't want tons of Chinese immigrants causing all kinds of problems for their societies.

Maybe if they wanna link Asia to Africa, they should concentrate on that huge continental sparsely populated land mass first, before going to a highly populated archipelago nation whose people historically scapegoats you, or a mountainous region filled with Islamists.

Must be frustrating for them. fixing up in the PRC easy - just confiscate land, force people to move, suppress dissent and all ok. When dealing with other countries the iron fist doesn't work so well.

This is why an alternative model is a great idea. Gives everyone choice. Trump has recently spoken about getting the World Bank and Asian Development Bank to invest more in infrastructure in Asia, which will obviously lean heavily on Japan. The potential for Indian and Japanese cooperation is also very significant.
I wish Australia would take advantage of the money around to fund projects here. Road infrastructure is pretty good, but rail is abysmal. The dream of many Australians is fast rail, maybe even the hyperloop! around the entire circumference of the country taking in all the major cities, which apart from Canberra and Alice Springs are all on the coast. They always say we need more people to make it successful, but given immigration trends, that's going to happen anyway. Need to start building now!

Silvafan hit the nail on the head. Even the chinese (from non-PRC countries) don't trust the PRC chinese.

@Robert
What are you even talking about? That makes no sense! Who wouldn't want to get the best price for their property just like the government would swindle every landowner if they could.
You also assume these Chinese immigrant workers going overseas for work in construction have mansions back home waiting for them. Those Chinese immigrants are going to work construction in another country because they live in "shitholes"(your words not mine) in their country. Why do you think immigrants travel to other countries to do dirty, dangerous, and dull work?
Silvafan
@Robert
Simple, they need money and there are not a lot of prospects for them in their home country. This is why most stay if they can. Most of these Chinese migrant workers come from the countryside. They are not China's best and brightest. They are encouraged to go overseas by their government to control their population and to bring back funds for crashing domestic economy.
You make me laugh!
