Taiwan's China Airlines said Tuesday it would raise the number of Japan-bound flights to 172 weekly before end-June, up from 130 last year, as a weaker yen attracts more Taiwanese tourists to Japan.
Taiwanese tourists made 2.35 million visits to Japan last year, up 50.6 percent over the previous year, according to Taiwan's Tourism Bureau.
Japanese made 1.42 million visits to Taiwan in 2013, slightly down from 2012.
China Airlines chairman Sun Huang-hsiang attributed the rise in flights to Japan to a weaker yen.
The airline has also opened routes to second-tier destinations like Shizuoka, Kagoshima and Toyama.
