BYD: already flying under car companies' radar with electric buses on both sides of the Atlantic.

The interesting thing is that China already has a giant market for rechargeable, electric scooters. And while they are beyond uncool to look at, they really do work well for simple city commuting, they're cheap, and they're everywhere.

So while Europeans may resist electric cars because the infrastructure isn't in place and Americans may resist it because it goes against their culture of what a cool car should be, for Chinese the electric car could be just a reasonable step along the chain of already existing products.
