China wanted to enter the modern world. It joined the WTO but did nothing to stop millions of fake goods, it ignores the rights of its own people, demolishing houses forcibly with no due process, running them over with tanks, then it tried to hold Japan hostage by witholding rare earths, which also impacted other countries, and now it wants to organize the boycott of Japanese goods (you don't really think it will be 'spontaneous', do you?).

Why oh why is the world still sucking up to this country? Shift production to India, to Taiwan, somewhere. If you put most of your eggs in one basket, the big fat a*rse of the fake KFC Chinese bird will come and squash them and then tell you it's your own fault.

The islands are not the problem. But its a big excuse for their hate

Even this very day I was reading how PC manufacturers in China are using counterfeit software when building their computers, resulting in viruses linked to the Nitol botnet, stealing users' personal information right from day one. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-19585433

Wise up people.

China trying to turn the screws on the Japanese government.

China's empty threat. So what? It won't affect Chinese consumers. They know the quality of Japanese goods cannot be beat. However, there's a lot of business that China can lose if Japan feels threatened. They can lose a lot of manufacturing jobs. If this happens, the people won't like it. And when the people don't like that, they might protest the Chinese government. The time for revolution in China is getting near.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

hatsoff. Exactly. Let's see how China whines when production facilities are shifted elsewhere.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

This'll hurt both nations, but in the end it would hurt Japan a lot more than China -- as they rely on them more and more every year for resources, raw materials, and outsourcing.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

the most concerned issue now is more than four japanese citizen in china were attaked and suffered by chinese wild mobs so far. if some japanese will be murdered, it could go next step.

If It comes to it, I will protest to my government not to waste the lives of American servicemen for the careless whims of Japanese politicians and nationalists who drive black vans on December 7th every year.

Crystalyle@ 1) What color vans do the politicians (?!) and nationalists drive on the other 364 days of the year? 2) Why do you mention Dec. 7? That date has no significance in Japanese history. Any Japanese-language history book would tell you that the Pearl Harbor attack occurred on Dec. 8, 1941. 3) I've been in this country a long time and have yet to see rightists riding about and gloating on either Dec. 7 or Dec. 8. 4) Do you really believe that Japan somehow presents a bigger threat to present-day US interests than do China (or North Korea)?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I love Japan more than China, so I give all my support to Nippon. However, Cut the Island's in half, Japan side to Japan, China's side to China, and split the cost down the middle. No more war's... Please find a peacefull solution...

The J-govt did what it could to ease yensions by pre-empting Ishihara from building on them. Yet China continues to behabe in a belligerent manner. There are now reports of Japanese nationals in Shanghai being injured by J-hating mobs. Shanghai has an enormous population of Japanese. hina has also sent four Chinese Maritme Safety vessels to the Senkakuys and two ofv them have croosed in Japanese waters and are in a standoff with thge Japan Coast Guard. Fpor whatever reason the Chinese govt is not doing what it can to calm the rabid mobs or to lower the tensions, rather they are continuing to escalate it.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

codomo, they reported 6 cases last night. Kicking, tossing beverages, breaking glasses ... this is just the beginning. If you are Japanese and in China, try to blend in!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Both China & Japan are looking stupid, as usual, in all this, they both are being hurt, neither can "win" in this, stupidity all round!

Here is an idea, Japan why dont you offer to SELL the Senkaku's to China for an enormous sum, use the cash to pay down the countries debt, China can save face (albiet for tons of $$),...............

Yeah sure there wud be some whiners, but wud be better than seeing people kind & economies suffer MUCH MUCH more damage!

The Senkaku Islands dispute is far more meaningful than you all think. There exists enormous resources around the islands, that's why China claims it, but unfortunately China had never established ownership of the islands internationally. The bottom line is that in 1972, when the US returned Okinawa Islands to Japan, the treaty included the Senkaku Islands as the Japanese territory, which was the last internationally recognizable document and fact. My recommendation is that China should file a complaint against Japan with the International Court. That would resolve the dispute without doubt. However, China wouldn't do it because they know they lose without ground of their claim. However, China has told its people its sovereignty past many years, therefore they cannot change the story any more.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I say "who cares about trade?". Chinese citizens have been attacking Japanese citizens in China and that is where I draw the line. Bring back all businesses back to the U.S. and Japan. I'll pay more for something.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

i certainly hope the japanese government isn't still giving USD$1.2 BILLION/ year of our tax money to china, #$#&% ingrates.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah, because the it worked so well when China said they weren't going to give Japan rare-earth elements, so Japan just looked elsewhere.

Let's see how they'd like it if Japanese companies closed ALL their factories in China and went elsewhere too.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Sad to say, all is NOT what it seems on the surface. As some have stated, there are natural resources around ALL of the islands now in dispute which points to one of the key issues that must e considered... economics. Ownership of natural resources (that includes - people/ working population) is the key to political and military power and in a sense the assurance of survival. That is no different from all living things, plants and animals alike. And so far in all history, all wars were fought over territories (land=resource) regardless of the facade put on the surface such as religion or political philosophy.

For China, it appears that they "want" the dispute to grow to a level of actual conflict where it comes close to war. They have a winning hand regardless of where the island dispute goes. They can "nationalize" and take over ALL international investments within China from offices to factories without paying a Yuan.

China already has the infrastructure and technology they need right in their hands. The more conflict they have with other nations that have invested in their country, the better it is for them to "cut" them off. All communist nations have done that as part of their "nationalization of industries" for the good of the proletariat.

It does not matter if it is Japan or the US. They just need an excuse to "nationalize". They have already started the conflict by allowing Chinese businesses to confront Apple, an US company. They have already "allowed" Chinese companies to produce illegal copies of almost everything. So they already know that they have the people resources well trained by foreigners to produce what ever foreigners can produce. They also know that internally they have one of the bigger consumer population other than Africa.

Now that I have outlined a scenario, can you see why the boat attacks?

Can you see why they give aid to all countries in the form of "credit" so other countries are forced to "buy" from China?

Can you see why China support all nations opposed to the only country that can prevent China from getting out of hand, the USA?

Can you see why they want their copyrights and patents "honored" but refuse to honor those of other countries and blame it on their populace for such misconduct?

Try to put all actions taken by China recently, not just this issue, and see where it points.

Short of war, they want an "excuse" to take what may be a terrible and devastating action, but beneficial and profitable for China.

That is because if those countries want to keep or get their rights to what ever was taken, they can always demand a "ransom" in the form of a huge tax or duty.

In what is a declining and possibly a critical situation in their economic condition and political stability, these moves certainly makes sense.

Who cares about trade ? J Corp does & definitely -- as visible & invisible trade with C market generates huge surplus & profit during normal years.. Not to mention at a time of economic downturns. What is really important is its fast growing nature for at least decades to come. Shifting to other places sounds handy, but in practice, it is easier said than done given the very developed 'raw materials- semi finished- finished products' chain for a number of industries within China over past 30 years ( example, shifting the process 'sewing garment' out to Vietnam would mean importing clothing, dyestuffs still from China.. ). Finally, as purchasing power surging, these outposts plants located in China because they rely on the Chinese market as well.

In a globalized economy, J Corp is within C Corp & vice versa, both will be hurt if the escalations intensify. The party starts losing patience & feeling the urgency of taking actions first was the Noda cabinet amid almost sure loss of political support within Japan & the pressing sentiment in securing the Senkakus-Diaoyu isles before the Chinese overtakes further in economic & military power & ensuring the 50 year ( jurisprudence by ICJ with deadline in a decade ) administration of the disputed territories to enhance the chance of permanent possession of the isles.. The Chinese read very well the J Govt's intent & the drive behind the recent move..resulting in determined counter measures..

Which side will hurt if peoples boycott Made in China goods? I don’t think Japanese peoples are patriotic enough to boycott Made in China and South Korea.

China wants to take it all!Take note,he's erecting a "great wall" on the seas...bullying poor countries for that purpose!

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

OMG. You guys have some warped ideas.

First, it doesn't matter if your products can't be beat. That's not what this is about.

Pure hate is brewing. At the core of the issue is unresolved differences and what appears to be cage rattling in order to create distraction from REAL issues here in Japan.

You are wrong about the People of China. Hate is energy and pitch. Even IF.....IF...in fact the politicians are wrong it doesn't matter. They will direct the people to uniforms and guns.

Sorry but I can't stad the BLOODLUST bloggers who have no concept of modern warfare and have never served a day in uniform. There is no way you can stop a nuclear missile war. These are not the good ol days of holding a hill. These are the days of evaporating the hill into dust.

If Ishihara had a heart attack today I wouldn't shed a tear because of the venom he's spewing.

Take a step back. Look at the human condition. We are creatures that believe in Gods and Nationalism. These are radical times where people don't wait for the government to take action.

Take that stupid filmaker who upset thousands of Muslims. Some people won't rest. People died. Japan can't police it's borders, water all around. They can get in here. These careles politicians are inciting this, setting the stage for it. Reckless.

If It comes to it, I will protest to my government not to waste the lives of American servicemen for the careless whims of Japanese politicians and nationalists who drive black vans on December 7th every year.

chinese people are..... hmmm..... interesting?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Why stir up the issue by purchasing the disputed islands? What is the benefits for Japanese people?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

It's all very childish playing out their own personal hate they way they're doing and using the islands as an excuse.

The islands are rich in resources, and this is the only reason these countries want stake claim to them.

Greed.

China's empty threat. So what? It won't affect Chinese consumers. They know the quality of Japanese goods cannot be beat. However, there's a lot of business that China can lose if Japan feels threatened

That has to be some of the most warped thinking I've seen in print.

This 'the world needs Japan, Japan doesn't need the world' mind think is what has been leading this country down the economic and political plug hole for the last 25 years.

As for Sino-Japanese trade and the consequences of any trade sanctions, well I'm not going to even start to counter such a ridiculous statement but comment that sadly there are a sizeable proportion of the Japanese population who believe it to be so and will be visibly and financially proven wrong in the near future.

Toyota, Sony, Nissan, Canon and Panasonic need the future Chinese markets. While the Chinese markets, without the aforementioned companies, can buy Hyundai, BMW, Ford, Samsung, Phillips and LG.

As as for your comment on Japanese products being better than the rest, which century are you living in?

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

China has too many people. There will always be a group pf crazy people. If all china protest in japan embasy i groups of 40 daily. It will take 32 million days for them

For whatever reason the Chinese govt is not doing what it can to calm the rabid mobs or to lower the tensions, rather they are continuing to escalate it.

And the Japanese government is, get a grip?

Have you seen the uyoku lately? One of them is mayor of Osaka, another is mayor of Tokyo and two are standing for the party leadership of the LDP.

As a Swiss professor wisely commented once, in Japan, if you feel a sudden rush to express your bouts of xenophobia, there is no need to join some far-right street political organization. You just join the police or another instrument of the state.

This will hurt Japan a lot more than it will hurt China. Why Japan hasn't figured this out yet is beyond me.
