Other governments are doing this too. Looking at the numbers, it is far too early. And not nearly enough infrastructure has been rolled out. These subsidies are one of the few ways that governments can easily buy a reduction in emissions. Stopping them is bad for the environment unless they have a more drastic 'Plan B'. I wonder if politicians are turning away from a transition to EVs and switching instead to a phasing out of private car ownership by crimping/blocking supply chains, and developing work from home mandates. Tesla is becoming a target alongside the tech companies. This has implications for the industry, especially for Japan as a major car exporter.

I suspect this is aimed at Tesla. They appear to have fallen from favor in China. The Chinese government will find other ways to support domestic producers without calling it an electric vehicle subsidy, but that help won't be available to Tesla.
