Quick poll: anyone not see this coming?

Nobody wants to pay for fake news

As noted, this was doomed to fail. You can get very biased news for free. Why pay?

CNN+ morphs into CNN-

@KetoCoffee

CNN is definitely not "leftist progressive news". I don't think any major US news network qualifies as that.

But it really didn't offer anything you couldn't get from any of the other neoliberal sources. If you are gonna offer a paid service, you need to offer something people can't get elsewhere.

I'm not usually a big fan of schadenfreude, but I'll make an exception here.

as expected.

only morons will pay for flood of fake news 24/7

well done guys hope more outlets to follow soon.

Its a pity that we don't get Fox news here in Japan - since that way we'd be better able to judge both sides for their relative merits or lackings...

Both partisan outlets based on what I’ve seen, although I’d say CNN aims at a higher IQ group. Fox used to have very good looking women with low-cut tops and short skirts, although Tucker Carlson might be indicating a shift towards a more homoerotic direction these days.

I used to have CNN in Japan as part of a SkyPerfect package and I think it worked out that I was paying about ¥60 a month for CNN. Not worth it.

It was shut down by their new owners - not because of reasons you guys think

Their old owner (WarnerMedia) believes in niche subscriptions, but their new owner (Discovery) doesn't believe in that. Instead, Discovery believes in consolidating into one giant subscription service. The same day that Discovery took ownership, they immediately told CNN about it

CNN+ will live on but be integrated into the same service as HBO Max, Discovery+, etc.

Executives at Discovery, wary of antitrust rules, were constrained from advising their counterparts at CNN until the merger was done. CNN+ had lost its champion when Mr. Zucker left in February because of an undisclosed romantic relationship with a colleague. But Jason Kilar, the WarnerMedia chief executive, forged ahead anyway, launching the streaming platform on March 29 to the frustration of the Discovery leadership.

It quickly became apparent that Mr. Zaslav had a very different view on digital strategy.

On the morning of April 11, the first business day of Discovery’s ownership — and 90 minutes before its WBD stock even went live on Nasdaq — JB Perrette, Discovery’s global head of streaming, convened a meeting with CNN executives.

Mr. Perrette had a message: Marketing of CNN+ was to be suspended, pending a formal review of the business, three people familiar with the conversation said.

Executives at Discovery wanted to merge its other subscription platforms — Discovery+ and HBO Max — into one giant streaming service. They were not convinced that a niche product like CNN+ could be viable on its own.

CNN is shutting down its CNN+ streaming service less than a month after its launch, a spectacular flameout for a venture that had attracted stars like Chris Wallace and Alison Roman and was seen as a way to attract a new generation of news consumers.

Lots of tears streaming down the faces of the liberals today.

Fox used to have very good looking women with low-cut tops and short skirts,

Still do and brains to boot in a tantalizing package.

although Tucker Carlson might be indicating a shift towards a more homoerotic direction these days.

Naw, the guy is 100% a skirt lover.

Lots of tears streaming down the faces of the liberals today.

I knew it was doomed from the very start.
