This is the last thing this city needs.

What is the purpose? There are so many empty offices in many buildings, just look at San Francisco and all the buildings that are being shuttered up. Unless there is demand for more office space what is the purpose of this not so attractive building and adding to the global warming.

Of all the buildings in that photo, Tokyo Station is the most beautiful by some distance.

So glad to see the height isn't outrageous. America has built way too many skyscrapers that now have to be removed with no clean means to do so.

Tower of Babel. A lesson unlearned.

Another thick, boxy, dumb building for Tokyo’s skyline. Why can’t we have any elegant buildings?

. . . the top 'layers' of the building look a little precarious . . . ?

It looks really cool. That part of Tokyo is going to look really cool.

Nearly all big cities and towns across the world are experiencing empty office spaces on a huge scale. Building more of them is a huge waste of resources.

Just in time for the population collapse and everyone starting to WFH.

The artistic rendering looks a lot shorter than 1,000+ feet tall, it must have a monster footprint compared to a conventional skyscraper.

I don't know how necessary it is for Tokyo to have another skyscraper but, aesthetically, it looks decent, maybe distinctive enough with that section at the top to stand out among the more generic tall buildings. As much as I love natural scenery, I do like an impressive cityscape too, and Tokyo certainly has that.

Office occupation in Tokyo is high.
"
According to office brokerage Miki Shoji, the office vacancy rate in Tokyo's five central wards -- Chiyoda, Chuo, Minato, Shinjuku and Shibuya -- was 6.46% as of July, pushing it above 5% for 30 consecutive months. Other regions will also surpass pre-COVID levels, with Osaka at 4.6% and Nagoya at 5.5%"
Other cities like London and New York are converting office space to living space.

Can't believe the amazingly poor choice of name, Torch Tower. Am I the only to be reminded of the movie "The Towering Inferno" (that dates me, I suppose). People will have fun with this one if it ever turns into a burning torch.

Why is it that as buildings get bigger, the design gets uglier?

This building is incredibly ugly. I hate the design, and they are going to ruin the view of Tokyo Station by putting this gigantic eyesore behind it. Yuriko Koike has done unbelievable damage to Tokyo's reputation with her Covid policies and by approving terrible monstrosities such as this one.
I was fine with Azabudai, and even defended it - but with this one, I think it actually makes the skyline worse.

That's nice. "Tenjin Big Bang" is transforming the entire downtown area of Fukuoka. No project since Japan was rebuilt after the war has made such a transformative chance to a major city.

You better not be somewhere that high WHEN ( it’s not if but When ) the next big earthquake hits!
Mark
For What? Just to have an empty structure blocking everyone view? with all the shakers we get daily we'll see how long it will last/

A new skyscraper to make Tokyo more and more one of the best, modern and innovative cities in the world...
GO TOKYO !!!!...

Not beautiful. In fact ugly is too good a word to describe the artist's impression of what the new phallic tower is going look like!! It is ghastly!!! It is a stupendously unworthly to appear on the skyline of Tokio or any other city in Japan!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People in Tokio and in Japan speak up!!!!!!!!!!
