Who would want to move to Texas? Bet a lot of the staff is going to resign.

I would much rather live and work in Texas as opposed to California. Way nicer people for one.

Wait until the power grid collapses again.

Well at least he will have another reason for slow delivery.

Me thinks Mr. Musk is looking at huge tax breaks from Texas, and lower taxes for everything. If he felt that the Bay area was too expensive why didn't he move to another location in California? It is a big state, almost as big as Texas. No, it's all about money, as usual.

6 ( +13 / -7 )

He won't even be able to set up a Tesla dealership there. Anyone in Texas will have to order their vehicle online and pick it up in another state. It doesn't make sense.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Great move, Texas is booming and California is evolving into a communist state. California has some of the highest taxes in the USA and people are leaving in droves. They are tired of the DEMS hypocrisy and the human waste that litters the sidewalks. Businesses are moving to Republican states!

5 ( +16 / -11 )

Some idiot Dem politician couldn’t resist hate tweeting against Musk to try to gain some street cred with “the Squad” side of the party.

epic fail. Job, revenue and tax loss and ridicule is what she ended up with.

I can understand concerns on the cost of home ownership, high rentals in the Bay Area.

But moving to Texas????

Under the GOP,Texas is regressing, they are even more backward than the Bible thumping bigots!!

Hope Elon smokes less pot and thinks more!!!

Not quite right but you and whoever gave you the downvote should enter this

into Google.

There is an actual poop map of the sidewalks of San Francisco. There is not a poop map of Austin.

Don't worry, California! State-tax-free states like Washington, Florida and Texas will see all those "job creators" pack up and move there. Corporate taxation in these alternative states likewise tip the scales in favour of moving out of the tarnished "Golden State". Sales tax on every single purchase is several percentage points higher in CA than in these other states as well. Housing costs? Registration "fees" on everything and everyone? Fuel taxes?? lol! Please.

Then...there's the wacky, wacky far-Left politics. Believe me: it's even worse than the latest nutty UK Labour Party Conference, if you can believe that?! lol I know, impossible, right? But no...

Still, when nearly 20% of Cali now lives under the poverty line!, 1/3 of the Entire COUNTRY'S Welfare recipients now call themselves "Californians"! and the K-12 education system has fallen from First in the Nation...to 40th?, I'm sure Hollywood or Silicon Valley will be able to offer enough jobs to paper over all these glaring failures, right?

If not, there's still a lot of restaurants with tables to be bussed, dishes to be washed...or wait, those are "jobs Americans do not or will not do", right? Besides, the masses of Illegal Aliens need jobs, too, don't they! (...And licenses and health care and education and...well, everything a citizen should receive...but usually WITHOUT the required tax contributions? "Shadow Economy" indeed.)

Anyway...when's the next UBI experiment, California? LOL We wants our Free Money, And We Wants It NOW!! (And the companies go on relocating by the hundreds...)

he is just moving to Texas to pay less tax while also paying virtually 0 in federal tax he is a snake and a vile human being!

Anyone in this thread dissing on Musk and Texas had better do their homework. Texas has been ranked as one of the best states to live in for some time now. California, on the other hand has become a cesspool or crime, taxes and homelessness. Elon Musk, as whacky as he is, is a genius and an incredible innovator.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

Elon Musk, however 'brilliant' he may seem to be, has been favored with great 'luck' as well. My own suspicion is that his great good luck will abandon him in Texas. Whatever else California may be, it is a center of 'creativity' and out of the box thinking whereas Texas is as 'backward' a society as America has produced amongst its many local variants. The beginning of Musk's ultimate failure lies in Texas...but let's see how it goes. I'm sure other intuitions see other results and, perhaps, Musk, unlike so many like him who have come before, hasn't been blinded by the light of his own brilliance.

Everyone's moving to Texas, as it represents America. It is projected to have 50 million people by 2040. U-haul costs 4x more to go from California to Texas than the other way.

Gotta love all the leftists bagging Elon. Its hilarious. Probably America's greatest living industrialist, but yeah, stick the fork in.

Like Tesla is the only company to leave. They're leaving in droves.

Its just a pity they all seem to be going to one other state.

Would be nice if some larger U.S firms took a punt on less well worn paths to other states. The feds should be encouraging that.

Elon is moving for several reasons, not just tax - Space X and the nature of Texas and its people, Im sure are other major reasons.

Oh, and to avoid the extrement and urine. Im sure he wears some nice shoes. Nobody needs that.

Woman are free in California. They are not free in Texas. The men decide what they can or cannot do to their bodies.

I hope his workforce of talented women do not follow the head office there.

Smart man, great move. Helps Texas, helps their economy, more job opportunities, fantastic news.

Texas, the home of oil and fossil fuels.

Yup, ain’t it great? Sorry, but Chevy, Harley’s and Ford muscle cars and bikes don’t run on solar and wind power.

I live in California, and this doesn't bother me, at all. There is stiff competition for housing here. If the headquarters moves, it will ease up the overcrowding, at least a little.

There is another upside to Tesla moving some of their people out of state. California is an overwhelmingly "Blue" state, while Texas is what is known as a "Purple" state, not overwhelmingly Blue or Red. The people working in the Tesla headquarters are highly educated, so chances are that the vast majority are democrats. The more democrats who move to Texas, the sooner the state will be taken back by democrats.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

I guess musk stepped in one too many human poos, or maybe junkie needles. Great move, it's a trend of companies fleeing these liberal cities in droves.

Beto O’Rourke has been saying that for years, as someone that has been a resident for 19 years in Texas, it’s as red as it can get, it bleeds red, don’t know how many times the Dems make that stupid claim, now I will admit, Austin is a sea of blue and that is very true and with rising crime, we like to keep all of that regulated to that one blue dot in the sea of red.

Yeah, in Orange County where I was born and lived as a kid, they also thought it would engulf California and turn it Red and that never happened. OC is the red dot in the sea of blue and no further, but then again, that’s why living there costs an arm and a leg.

Elon Musk, was hoping he would re-locate to Mars. Along with those who embrace his rather atavistic neo-libertarian stance.

If it wasn't for the largesse of he Federal government, there would be no Tesla.

Musk is essentially the DeLorean of the 21st century.

Amusingly, Musk is becoming more and more dependent on an actual communist/socialist state aka China.

That is like saying if there wasn’t a Jon Ivey there wouldn’t be an Apple.

Musk is essentially the DeLorean of the 21st century.

Some laughed at Jobs as well, some laughed at Walt Disney as well….

Amusingly, Musk is becoming more and more dependent on an actual communist/socialist state aka China.

Well, Americans don’t have as much to buy these items, at least he employs Americans and gives good competitive wages. Bezos should take a text out from his book.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

another one! Texas is killing it! Whatever you guys are doing in California, perhaps your doing it wrong.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

With all this shift of companies and workers, I wonder whether this will accelerate Texas' shift from red to blue? It's happening, but maybe quicker than expected?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I don't mean this as an offense to anyone but it seems like some notions of Texas and California are outdated in this thread. California is the roughest state to live in West of the Mississippi. Texas, actually, is a much better place to raise a family, start a business, build a life, etc.. California isn't becoming a failed experiment. It already is one. Texas, also, is extremely powerful economically. Four of the ten largest cities in the US are in Texas. They are all growing. The first Shinkansen in America is being built there. Crime rates are lower there, compared to where I'm from. As a Northerner, I respect Texas for building a strong vibrant economy that offers opportunities for those willing to take endeavor. People that think California is a great place haven't been there in the past 20 years.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

It's happening, but maybe quicker than expected?

Been hearing that since 1998….lol

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Let's not forget that Space X is already located in Texas.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Texas may be nicer than the stereotypes, but the abortion ban will be a deal killer for many.

It would help if these companies opened up in more deprived parts of the US that have lost jobs through industrial changes.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

They are tired of the DEMS hypocrisy and the human waste that litters the sidewalks. Businesses are moving to Republican states!

and yet Musk is still expanding CA giga factory by 50%. wait until TX gets inundated with new tech companies watch the price of living skyrocket. Republican states still have the highest homicides per capita TX is worse than CA.

Been hearing that since 1998….lol

already happened in Arizona, guess which state most of the population increase came from.

CA is 2/3 democrat they can afford to lose millions on democrats to red states. Just because a person changes state doesn't mean they change their political affiliation, just as Arizona has found out

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Problem is those moving with Tesla bring their same political beliefs and the same problems with them. They can’t figure it out yet. Austin is a good example, that city is turning into trash. Just take a walk through the city to see yourself. 25 yrs ago Austin was such a cool, clean down to earth town.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Reckon that Greater Idaho idea will ever happen?
