I'd really like to understand exactly what prompted Kobe steel to come clean on this to begin with ? Does anyone out there know ? Someone must have been holding the equivalent of a gun to their heads surely ...

Uh-oh, Japan Inc. is now looking bad in the eyes of western countries and organizations - which is something the Japanese fear beyond death itself.

I would say that Japan's image of superior manufacturing prowess is now more than dented, it is ruined in the eyes of many.

Great that they moved on this, but astonishing that they have not moved on Boeing, when it is open knowledge that cheap parts from China have been used for years in their planes.
