The EU is just one large nanny-state. People in Europe can't possibly make decisions about how to eat, sleep or what to purchase, so they need the government's "help".

Jeff, we are talking about cosmetics. Not life saving stuff. It is unncessary to torture animals for wife's 'creme de jour'.

It was the right thing to do. Hurray for the EU. Torturing and maiming animals is just as cruel as doing the same on the humans.

It's such a no-brainer, I'm surprised it took this long. (Also dismayed that there actually has to be a law to stop people doing unspeakable things to animals as part of their business model...further dismayed that other countries are still way, way behind.)

As for Shiseido, it's good that they're cutting down on animal testing, but if they think they have products that can be proved safe only by torturing animals, then they need to drastically revamp their product line, or replace their scientific staff, or both. I won't be a customer until all their products proudly display a clear 'cruelty-free/no animal testing/no animal products' label.

Maybe they need to meditate on their sales slogan that goes 'We believe that caring, sensitivity and empathy define the beauty in communicating and building relationships'. There is no beauty to be had from products that were born from the screams of blind rabbits and skinless mice.
