Tesla CEO Elon Musk has a "super bad feeling" about the economy and wants to cut about 10% of jobs at the electric carmaker, he said in an email to executives seen by Reuters.

Seems like come back to the workplace and be fired for some, at least for that 10 percent.

The message came two days after the world's richest man told employees to return to the workplace or leave the company.

I must say Musk is betraying the ideals of his beloved author, Iain Banks.

From the beginning of the pandemic he has been constantly trying to downplay the risks to the health and wellbeing of his employees, ignoring their desire to telework even if that would be very beneficial to them is just part of the same thing.

Good news for Ford and GM.

Good, this entitled generation of grown up babies really need a reality check. Some of the things posted on LinkedIn are unbelievable.

I think a two week stint in the mines like my grandad did every day would do them the world of good. Or compulsory national service like in Korea might help them adjust to real life.

-5 ( +14 / -19 )

If you asked me it sounds like Mr. Musk is trying to sway the mid-term elections in the US. Claim a recession is coming, has to clash workforce, get back in the office. All things that are meant to deal a blow to the Biden administration!

-4 ( +9 / -13 )

when Elon does anything ( which is not looks good) it is a global news for fake liberals and their propaganda.... Because he said h is no more a democrat or biden worshipper..... So painting black ( not BLM ha ha ha ) is a must for them..

When he does any good thing they will never report ...

If Jeff or Bill gates or Mark Zukker or bloomberg or any of those guys kick out 25% of workers they will never be a local news......

This is the world ... run by so called freedom seekers .. what a joke ..

-9 ( +8 / -17 )

Can this guy go a week without making a headline about something?

10 ( +15 / -5 )

Musk is like a dictator of the company, so he can decide everything he wants for his company.

5 ( +12 / -7 )

From the beginning of the pandemic he has been constantly trying to downplay the risks to the health and wellbeing of his employees, ignoring their desire to telework even if that would be very beneficial to them is just part of the same thing.

"The question is what, on balance, serves the greater good," Musk continued, adding that the lockdowns did not accomplish that and the pandemic is a "no-win situation."

He was also tested numerous times, and every test had a different result. He made it through with his opinions and you seem to have made it through with yours.

Definitely playing to the populist mob!

'Freedom of speech' / 'Back to the office' - all punted by right-wing media nutjobs.

I was looking at a Tesla purchase for my first EV next year - not any more.

Big Japanese companies don't have that problem as the government will print an unlimited amount of cash to cover the losses.

However in America, if the company is bringing losses you cut staff, production, etc. few understand that, especially in Japan where all the companies rely on BOJ printer.

Nonsense.

Here’s an up-to-date list of the status of $700 Billion of US taxpayer bailouts:

Well, what can you expect??, another pathetic exploiter who uses his employees to enrich himself and when they doesn't serv for him, he discards them as a reused by-product..

Alpha male? Good laugh. He'd be an all-day punching bag around all the B-class males I know. Don't let having money and some power fool you.

He'd be an all-day punching bag around all the B-class males I know. Don't let having money and some power fool you.

It's his brain that makes him an alpha male, not his "muscle"

Love to see how many "b-class males" can conquer the aerospace industry, innovate electric transportation, and create a digital financial eco-system 20 years before people even understood how to use the internet.

ohh..... let's not forget STARLINK...

Ukraine has nothing but respect for this man because he puts his money where his mouth is.

Getting rid of the office deadwood.

It seems like there are a lot of jealous posts about this man.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

The biggest problem with Musk is Musk's megalomania. That sort of thing wrecks havoc on established companies and is potentially deadly poison to startup companies. Compare the rise of Apple Computer to Musk's electric cars.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Obeying your Master??..

Yes, IF I chose to work there.

you do know that’s how “work” works, right?

0 ( +8 / -8 )

But please keep attacking Musk from the liberal side.

Another 2 years of that and some more actions on his part in response. then maybe I can begin to trust that he is done being a leftist.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

Don't quit. Make them fire you. Then you can get unemployment benefits, which costs the company.

Musk is brilliant and stupid. Those 2 traits often go together, unfortunately. He's almost a shill for the CCP as he tried to get in with them to sell more cars in China.

0 ( +7 / -7 )

Musk knows that tele working has made people lethargic and lazy. Boss says go back. Then go back. Musk has been accurate too predicting market trends drops and drips.

Don't like it? Lump it. as far as Biden admin is concerned? I can see the writing on the wall there. I think we all can. Red tsunami incoming. Many unhappy Americans in the blue and the red and down the middle.

One thing is for sure. Biden is not getting a second term. There is no way. America can not afford it. And I do not blame the American people. Harris is awful. Biden worse. You can see his hearts not in it anymore.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Or people prefer not having to go to a boring office, surrounded by jobsworths and pestered by constant micromanaging.

Or he is sick and tired of all the lazy "tele whatever" that eat ice cream, play with the dog, watch dumb "educational" tv shows and text their friends to tell them how stupid their boss is for allowing them to telework. All on his dime.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Musk knows that tele working has made people lethargic and lazy.

You are flat wrong about this CJT.

https://today.tamu.edu/2022/05/06/remote-work-doesnt-negatively-affect-productivity-study-suggests/

As I suspect much else in your statements.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

His company, his rules. You don't like it? Form your own EV and aerospace company then. I mean, that's what the liberals on JT said when people complained about Twitter censorship, etc.

Same rules apply!

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Why is working 40 hours a week an evil request?

0 ( +5 / -5 )

People should run their companies how they see fit. With that said, this will only hurt Tesla as he will lose a lot of talent to other companies that offer a more desirable work culture.

I think the reality is he has a super bad feeling about the new Chevy Volt, which will be the lowest priced electric car sold in the US, and on the other end of the market has to be worried about the new Lucid. In China he has to be worried about Shanghai based Nio.

It hasn't been that way with my employer. Having their computer sitting on my desk tends to coax us into working longer hours. You don't have that separation where you leave your home to arrive at work at a certain time, then leave work and the work computer at a certain time to go home. It is always there beckoning and if you have deadlines it is hard not to put in extra hours to meet those deadlines. Before yeah you could maybe spend another hour at work but you had to go home eventually to meet your kid coming home from school. Now I can spend that extra hour working at home, meet the kid when the bus arrives, and after a little time with him, shoo him out the door to play and return to work.

What a comments again

It is his company and business point of view a company need to survive which includes being a bad person time by time.

When economically goes well nobody complains and when it goes bad the owner is the bad guy.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

"Musk wants to cut 10% of Tesla jobs..." Straight up Fake News headline, right there.

As was factually stated in Real News reports elsewhere, "Elon Musk has a "super bad feeling" about the economy and needs to cut about 10% of SALARIED STAFF at his electric car company..."

10% of salaried staff is NOT 10% of "Tesla jobs". Not even close.

Musk even goes on to point this out, unreported here, by stating that "Tesla will be reducing SALARIED headcount by 10%, as it has become "overstaffed in many areas." But "HOURLY headcount will INCREASE," he said. "Note, this does NOT apply to anyone actually building cars, battery packs or installing solar," Musk wrote in the email."

So, no, 10% of "Tesla jobs" will not be cut, and in fact the people in the factories will increase in number!

What is happening to "news" these days? Straight up misleading people from the headline now?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Although it is Elon’s company, it is the worker’s health. There is a need to recognize reasonable concerns about returning to offices that facilitate COVID infections and resulting long-term side effects. What I see is a draconian mandate to return to the office or else. He exhibits little to no concern for employee health and the health of their families. For a person who tries to solve societal problems, he is quick to disregard employee concerns if it conflicts with his financial interest.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

I bet nobody on the manufacturing floor got the email. About time a boss realized that a lots of position in the office is highly over paid and value add very little to the company profit margins. You will soon see other company doing the same realizing position like the team empathy analysist, etc are just made up by woke infiltrators and your plain everyday slacker.

First of all nonsense! Second of all if you would be as successful as him, you could open your mouth about how to manage a company. Until then (and it won’t never happen), you have no business giving him blank stupid critics and advise him on how to run his company.

News flash!

Defending billionaires from criticism of their less than fair practices ( and for example the head start they got in life by having parents that had an emerald mine) does not make you rich.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I did a working from home role for a couple of years. My manager had a slew of metrics and stats to track our productivity and quarterly performance reviews. If our work wasn't up to par, then it was back to the office. Working from home was great, no commuting and rarely minded working back as all I had to was step out of the home office when done. Made my own lunches, free internet and subsidized power and other tax perks. I managed to save so much during that time.

I think the main gripe companies have with staff working from home is the wasted expense of those empty office buildings they spend so much on.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Well, he’s probably too big to fail. I don’t like him much, but normally you won’t see a self-damaging business leader, saying the truth, everything is turning bad, no hiring, less staff, so take care and don’t even consider to buy my products in such a future without prospects. No, usually one would lie and say, everything is great, your outlook and future prospects and employment are all safe, buy a Tesla or two. That shows, he is a very strong boss and doesn’t care about public. And the losses caused by those comments or business policy are probably easily covered again by the next xyz-coin comment. lol

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

I really do not like him or his cars, they look sooooo cheap!!! If he wants me to buy his car, he needs to hire a good Italian car designer!!!

1 ( +4 / -3 )

The anti Elon responses here are hilarious. Satellite internet connection for the world, working to land and colonize Mars, his booster rockets return and land to be reused, solar tech advances, oh and Tesla, and he’s an “awful man”?!

I guess you can never take the MSM/social media brainwashing out of some.

I wanna know why he wasn’t invited to the Bildeberg convention now in DC? Oh that’s right, he’s not a globalist.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

There are many jobs which can only be performed in the factory. Those people need to physically go to work. Office workers need to be at work for a few meetings a month, to ensure there's a personal relationship which just doesn't happen over internet conferencing.

I've worked both ways. While in an office job, I was much more productive at home - fewer interruptions from other social workers that way - there are times when being in the same room really does make a difference and can spawn creative ideas that doesn't happen any other way. Creative ideas can happen over the internet too - it is just different.

But, for Rocket companies, being at work most days is necessary. Being a short walk away from the physical devices matters. There's only so much that engineering diagrams convey.

The way labor laws work in the US, if you get fired without cause, you get company-paid unemployment benefits. Of course, not showing up to work would be "cause". You'll likely get some sort of severance pay which is tied to a contract agreement that says you won't talk about any technology or say anything negative about the company for some period of time. Companies usually leave the time limit out of the agreement, since they usually just need a few years and it is only in the first few months where negative information can harm them. If you want to say the truth, don't sign that agreement on the way out the door, but don't expect to get the 2-26 weeks of pay either.

This may come as a surprise for people interested only in money, but for other people being a decent human being can be a higher priority. Too bad if you are not able to recognize this.

And affordable models from Kia, VW, Nissan, and Ford. As well as, luxury models from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes. Tesla will have a ton of competition that is either more affordable and/or more luxurious. And, in most cases, better-looking, as Teslas are definitely looking a bit long in the tooth lately.

Personally, I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Mercedes EQB in Japan.

exactly , Musk is just salty that Tesla has crashed 300billion since last month,

actually people have just wizened up, why go to work when your wage doesn't even cover the cost of living, go to an employer that gives their staff a livable wage and decent conditions, its pretty sad when unemployment money is better than your actual working wage

its currently a workers market now with unemployment being near record low, companies can pay more to retain good staff or theyll go someplace else

Musk desperately needs to rob Tesla, to pay Twitter.

I wonder how the Tesla investors like knowing that their labor market is being squeezed so Elon can Tweet with impunity.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Good on Musk, people have gotten way too lazy during this pandemic, get up, and go to work, and if not, step aside and let someone else do the job happily and willingly.

Why? I never saw any drop in productivity from my staff from working remote. And most of them seem more happy, since they have more flexibility. We offered anyone who wants to the opportunity to come to the office, only a few of them took it. Everyone else is still working at home, and as it has saved on my bottom line (we downsized from two offices to one over the pandemic), I don't see any need to get my staff in.

I think a lot of people who liked the old status quo want to get back to it.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

t is his company, is it not?

don’t like it, don’t work there.

The outcome of a my way or the highway management style is high staff turnover, unhappy employees who are only there for the paycheck (until they can find better work) and resulting low quality product. I saw that vividly at a FedEx Ground terminal I worked at that treated package handlers so abusively ( no breaks, cheated on pay, part time workers worked more than 40 hours per week but because they were "part time" they received no benefits) we had a 250% annual turnover of our package handlers, and a 20% annual turnover of managers. There are only so many times a terminal manager or sort manager can poke you in the chest while bellowing a stream of obscenities at you before you just tune it all out and eventually leave. As a lower level manager it was impossible to get the more senior people from driving off your good workers with their bad behavior, plus I had to endure my own share of chest poking and obscenities. How would you like to walk in to work and have the Terminal manager lean out of his office and yell "YOU - get in my office now".

Considering the quality control problems Tesla automobiles seem prone to, from lousy body panel fit to cars slamming on the brakes for no reason due to glitches in the collision avoidance system, I would say maybe Elon Musk ought to pay more attention to the happiness and job satisfaction of his workforce. It makes me worry about the safety of SpaceX spacecraft. Good engineers do not like being driven like slaves and there is no shortage of good jobs for qualified engineers. He could end up with the B-Team in Hawthorn California.

I would bet many dollars to a donut that you don't run a company. Considering that Teslas are the work product of tens of thousands of people, of whom Elon is only one, it might behoove him to at least pretend to listen to his workers considerations.

Time for a total walk-out. GO ON STRIKE!!!
