Another sign. Toyota sees what is going on in the US, and that China is the future. It is time for Japan to join the Chinese sphere of influence.

China is the future

Anyone who know about the global economy knows this is far from the truth. Busness people do not trust China. Most nations have most of their overseas investments in the US economy which is why the US stock market tells where things are regarding currencies and international markets.

China will never be at that level. Nobody trusts China that much.

Eat that Trump.

But I'm also wary of J companies doing business in China.

When there were political spats people rampaged and reaked havoc on them.

USA is still the greatest ally, trade partner and friend of Japan. China is not a reliable trading partner as other posters are saying. Toyota had better be very careful. I hope for other Japanese auto makers to ramp up USA factories.

"Eat that Trump." Yes Trump will, chew it up and spit it out!. When it comes to tariffs, China has much more to lose than the U.S. Trump will make a come back, shooting from the hip.

Nope. China will just shift its trade to other countries. Everyone in the world is making new agreements around the US. The US isolated itself by starting a trade war with everyone. And unlike Trump, Xi has no worry of re-election, and can hold out longer than the US.

You fools who believed Trump knew what he was talking about are costing the rest of your people who were smart enough to see him for the moron he is. Those poor people - they have to share a country with Trump and 60 million who were stupid enough to believe him.

"USA is still the greatest ally, trade partner and friend of Japan."

You can say that again. Let's hope Japan does not make a mistake and it becomes was greatest ally, trade partner and friend of Japan.

"USA is still the greatest ally, trade partner and friend of Japan."

The USA has no friends anymore. Trump declared friends foes, started trade wars with allies, insulted the leaders of ally countries, and basically has acted like a big douche. The closest thing to a friend the USA has is Russia, but that's more like a dom/sub relationship.

It wouldn't be an article about China/Korea and Japan without the usual mention about "historical tensions" or "lingering bitterness" over WW2. Some things are as predictable as death and taxes.

Not when on just a whim Japanese (or any foreign) products can be attacked

What historical backlash ? Japan and China basically have a good relationship since 3000 years ago except during the wars. As for territorial dispute, it was Japan's unilateral decision that caused the tension but quickly calmed down because Japan realized that she was played. Toyota only has itself to blame for the missed opportunity in the past a few years in China's market, at least could have doubled its production. China never rejects Japan's companies in her market. It is Abe who rejected Japan, by refusing and bad mouthing Chinese new silk road and new development bank. It is never too late, the big golden market is just next door, and it is the only super market available that is so close, so familiar, so friendly, and so common in traits.

"The USA has no friends anymore."

It's got a lot more friends than China. Those friends include Vietnam, which has the strongest pro-American sentiment of any country on Earth, largely because the Vietnamese see the US and its military presence in the region as an effective counterweight to....China.

Same story of many of the other Asian countries.

Not really. Trump has alienated all of America's allies, even calling them foes. No one is a friend of America anymore, they are just dealing with America as they find other ways that they won't have to deal with America. No one actually like the country anymore.

Well, except Putin, he looks at America more like a sub that properly does its master's bidding.

People continue to confuse national political orientation, defense treaties, diplomatic ties etc with what private companies do to increase profits.

Nonsense, from start to finish.

For all of Trump's rantings and ravings there has been no attempts by America's allies to leave their alliance with the U.S. Give me one example. Just one.

Nonsense, from start to finish.

So Trump hasn't insulted May, Merkel, and Trudeau? Trump didn't call the EU a foe? Trump didn't start trade wars with his allies? Trump didn't insult Mexicans?

If you think that what I wrote was nonsense from start to finish, you are entirely clueless about what is going on in the world, and your posts are as a result meaningless, as you obviously are not informed enough to write a post that contains any relevant information.

Try to step up your game son, otherwise you just look silly.

And for all that, they are still U.S allies. That's my point. And its not going to change because there are no viable alternatives for any of those countries.

What's going on in the world is everyone looking after their own national interests, as per usual. Most of them are playing China and U.S for maximum gain. A smart strategy. An alliance with the U.S is in the national interest for America's allies most of which are Western or Eastern liberal democracies, but not all.

And for all that, they are still U.S allies.

Nope. Trump has made it very clear that they are not. How can you say the EU is an ally when he has clearly stated they are a foe? You do realize he is the president, right?

What's going on in the world is everyone looking after their own national interests, as per usual.

Except that it's not as usual - we used to work together. Now the world is working to get around the US. Look how many trade agreements have been signed to bypass the US altogether. The Canadian media is telling the people to buckle down for a long trade war. After Trump tried to claim Canada is a security risk, Canada just sold their steel to other countries instead.

Sorry, whether you like to bury your head in the sand or not, Trump has made it clear the US has no allies.

A smart move by a smart company. The Japanese auto industry is now full hedge against any political non sense. The Japanese auto industry much like Japan herself will rule the world. The Japanese is blowing out the competition in North America, China, South East Asia and India and Latin America and with the EU- Japan and TPP trade deals done the rest of the world will soon follow.

America really has no real leverage, but Shinzo Abe-one smart cookie- will offer the Americans a facing saving solution, Japan will buy a lot defense equipment especially the f35bs for Japanese new aircraft carriers.

As for China, headed for fall. Chinese have no money. They are over leverage and deep in debt. In a middle of trade war they cant win. Meanwhile Japan is keeping her powder dry and waiting for the right moment to offer leadership to the world.

Two Toyota articles in a row, same authors, same.old tired schtick, "lingering bitterness from WW2," "historical tensions," etc. Typical cut and paste job about China/Korea and Japan relations.

How utterly original.

If Toyota wants to lose US market, it might as well build more cars in China. The whole world now embrace the greatest US President ever Donald Trump by cutting back their trades with China significantly. Japan, as one of the strongest supporter of the US, should raise tariff on all Chinese goods imported by at least 25%. Trade with China is a bad business practice!!
