Read last week that Google compared interview statistics to performance reviews of everyone they hired. They were looking for specific interviewers that had a talent for picking great employees. There was no correlation between these numbers. People that interviewed well did not perform better on the job that random statistics would predict.
Predicting future "great employees" is still elusive. No test, question, credential is currently weeding out non-great people.

Except this is in the US. good luck finding grads like this in Japan.

@Wakarimasen, good point, it seems that here all it takes is going to a university with a decent reputation. I know first and foremost that most uni grads only have their grades looked at, and many of them have group interviews, which makes me wonder how well they're actually assessed by companies.

Do Universities actually teach these so called "soft skills" that employers are looking for?
Employers are probably too picky when it comes to new hires.. every job that I have had, the first 6 months were spent learning the company's procedures (the "how we do things here") and getting a handle on the culture.. companies will train you anyways in their ways and its completely unrealistic to say they expect someone to start a new job on the ground running.
