This year's North American Auto Show is going bad for Japanese automakers.

The Toyota Supra is widely being panned by critics.

The Infiniti QX concept broke down and had to be rolled out onto stage by pushing with hands.

In the meanwhile, Hyundai won both the Car of The Year and the SUV of The Year awards, it is extremely rare for one maker to sweep both awards.

I don't know, automatics are so good now that they're tough to beat. The only thing they don't have is the ability to predict. And most drivers these days seem to have abandoned their brains anyway....

Subaru also introduced their WRX S209 model to the USA, first time for an S-series to be sold there. 341 hp and a wider track. Should keep the market happy even if only a few hundered are produced.

The Toyota Supra should really be called BMW Supra - the engine and much of the internals comes from BMW!

The styling of the Supra looks good, but yeah, it's a BMW under it all.

All F1 cars and supercars, like the Veyron, are sequential flappy paddle now, so that won't be a deal breaker for many. Since there is no clutch pedal, an old lady with an automatic only license can drive them.

Still a lot of bigger is better on show by the sounds. European car shows will be more about hybrids and electrics.

@Hillclimber

Or are you just talking about vehicle design and/or quality?

No. I am talking about the Galapagos-like Japanese media on the motor show in Detroit, and its domestic readers.

@Mirai

You do realize that every Japanese car maker does not design and build their own engines, right?

They all do it. Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Toyota, Daihatsu, Honda, Mazda, On some vehicle version in their

line up. But I agree with your point. Just buy a BMW. But if the Toyota body talks to you and the car fits

you. Then hey. Why not. I am digging a little on the Supra body. I mean engines, parts, so much of it made in Japan by Denso-Denka and others as well Germany. Then they slap badges or stamps under the company that is making the specific genre (class) of car. The engine maybe German but will have a Toyota Badge. It is virtually impossible now to buy a car that the manufacture solely built.

Toy boata- Can you explain the joke here? I am curious. I get the Toy part.

The Dodge Ram is an accident waiting to happen with that high front end.

As a parent would you like your child crossing a street in front of that thing?

2018 Ford Mustang Owner. Eco Boost.

The shaken was up on my Dodge and had 80K plus on the clock. Time for a change.

Wanted a smaller American vehicle and spend less on tax every year. So I went green. Sort of ??

So, I ended up buying a 2018 Eco boost Ford Mustang. I opted with the Eco boost as opposed to the V6 or the V8. Simply for tax reasons. I sent my Mustang over to LB and had LB put their touch on it.

“Imagine all the people”. Thanks LB.

The tune. Cobb Eco Boost Stage 3.

Once I got the Cobb ECRM calibrated right and the mapping good to go. Had to get the exhaust un restricted. Thanks Borla!

The car screams for only 2300 CC.

Got a nice Carbon fiber bonnet (hood)-and-(mirrors) Nice chin spoiler with canards on the Mustang now.

APR Preformance. Once again. LB touched it up! Nice tie in's.

I then went with the Cobb Stage 3 tuning kit. Here is the Cobb Tuning kit I am using.

https://www.cobbtuning.com/products/stage-package/ford-stage-3-power-package-mustang-ecoboost-2015-2018

For suspension. I went with the Ford Performance Track Handling Pack (15-19 GT Fastback w/o MagneRide,

https://www.americanmuscle.com/frpp-assembled-handlingpack-2015gt.html

 For wheels and tires I went with the best Japan has to offer with Rays Volk Wheels and Toyo tires.

I am happy with the build and the Ford car. I have had no issues with it. I had a fox body 5.0 Mustang when I lived in the U.S. I guess I wanted to relive my youth a bit.

The only issue I really have with the car is the stock audio is awful. I need to change the din and put in some decent audio in this Pony. Been looking at Audio down at Yellow Hat.

I would be afraid to put a larger turbo on as I think the aluminum block could not handle the stress.

But the Ford Mustang Ecoboost stock or tuned is a nice car. Very reliable. Over time? Let's see.

Everything I did after market wise was reasonable priced.

Fun taking on all the JDM's at the light here in countryside Japan.

Car looks like this. Based of this build. Very similiar in all aspects.

But I’ll bet it can hold 3 to 4 tons of fragile male ego - so who cares?

@yoko.

Good one. Bahahaha!

I will be the first to admit. My ego's can be fragile at times. Handle with care. LOL.

Toy boata sucks! Why don't they ever build their own performance engines. They all built by Yamaha, Subaru, and now BMW, which begs the question, why should I get a Toy boata, when I can get a BWM Z4 if its goingo to have the same engine???

@Mirai.

Okay we agree with on that.

But I am dying to know. What is the humor or joke behind Toy boata?

Whats up with that man?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am liking the Supra. The body looks good.

It is rumored Hoonigan racing is going to get there hands on the new Soup very soon.

It also rumored Ken Block or one those guys said they would do a Brangers swap in the new Supra. That would just be awesome! Nothing like fully tuned 2JZ engine.

Something like this maybe....?

http://www.brangersracing.com/bre-1000-hp-2jzgte-long-block-8458.html

Also I do not mind the down voting on my Pony! All good.

They laugh at me at work as well.

I stick out like a sore thumb with all these Ferrari's about at work.

www.version-g.co.jp

I am a Southern American guy anyways. I buy American. I love everything American!

Dickies and Cheeseburgers! Hell ya!

Some call me a redneck and I do not mind.

Slick+-)............

Toy boata does it extensively. Honda builds most if not all of their engines
