Yep, everything in China revolves around the red envelope. Refuse and you get inspected, fined and maybe run completely out of business. China is as bad as any third world basket case for corruption.

I avoid buying from China.

We should pay companies willing to withdraw from China .. and invest in other Markets in South America or Southeast Asia or even Africa ... Forget China, responsible to spread the Covid-19 but take military advantage on behalf of other neighbor countries pain like India, Vietnam, Philippines and Australia ...

China is a rogue nation trying to rob world of manufacturing and then gag them by promoting only their goods and at their price. Yes it is. Where in the past a foreign business needed to make maybe one such gratuity (bribe) to get started, in the last several years local party cadre have been poking their hand out every year for what amounts to protection money. Refuse to pay and you promptly find the tax man, code enforcement, health and safety enforcement, etc., visiting your premises with fines raining down like a summer thunderstorm. There are plenty of accounts of this in the business press. Just part of doing business in the PRC.

I have been boycotting Chinese products since the early 2000s. I still laugh remembering an occasion at a big motorcycle show in December 2005 when I was examining some merchandise at a table in front of the owner of the business selling it. I noted his product was made in China and told him, "sorry, I can't buy anything made in China". The dude blew up on me, got all kinds of mad as I walked away.

There are barriers going up around the world limited exports and imports. The movement of people has also been heavily reduced by Covid border blocks (which don't make much sense in a pandemic that exists on both sides of each border), with vaccine IDs ensuring global surveillance. Data movements across borders will be next, building on GDPR and demands that data be located within nations, despite encryption allowing it to be located anywhere safely.

All of our governments are building walls around us. The result will be increased costs, higher prices, reduced income from exports, reduced tax revenue and shortages of food and goods.

The French wine output in 2021 is down 40% due to climate changes. All the best growing is moving closer to the poles. Saw a story were England is now becoming a place to grow excellent wine grapes just a few day ago.

China doesn't like playing fair. No surprises there. Either deal with it or don't play their games.
