Gasoline prices reach highest level since Oct 2008

The average retail price of regular gasoline topped 160 yen this week for the first time since October 2008.

The Agency for Natural Resources and Energy said Wednesday that the highest price on Monday was 160.1 yen per liter in Kochi Prefecture, Sankei Shimbun reported. Prices were up in all prefectures, with the highest being in Kochi (up 6.2 yen over last week) and Tottori (up 4 yen over last week).

The agency said the rising prices were due to the weak yen and turmoil in Egypt which has pushed up the price of crude oil.

I feel the pain. My Skyline drinks the gasoline like water. If only I could get myself out of the cockpit. Oh well. I won't be trading my monster in for a put-put Prius (or the like) anytime soon, so I might as well get used to it. We all have our vices, mine is my car. I can live with that. Maybe one of those new Teslas, however...

9400 yen to fill up my tank yesterday woot !!

But its worth it, cause nothing beats the sound of a beastly V10 engine

Spare a thought for Tokyoites living in places like Miyake, an island in the Izu chain. 196 yen per liter!

It was almost $1.60 a litre here recently too, don't understand the price fluctuations much as the prices seem to go up every Thursday.

A Prius or electric car might be the way to go..

Never look at the price of gasoline at the pump, just open the gas cap grab the pump and fill up.

Fill the car about once a month and fill my bike nearly every week sometimes twice a day if riding a bit, price of gas isnt an issue far as i concerned, the price of beer however better not go up.

First, milk then electricity rates and now gasoline prices. These are Abe and Kuroda's inflation plans. Welcome to the first signs of stagflation; high prices coupled with low demand.

Our car got back-ended and totaled by a hit-and-run driver in February. So we got a small-make Prius that Toyota sells here in Japan as the "Aqua."

We now average 12 to 17 kilometers per liter, or roughly 40 mpg city, which is double what we got before. Previously we typically filled the tank twice a month, but with the new car only 4 times since March 31. So the 160 yen per liter is effectively only 80 yen to us hybrid car drivers. I can't imagine having to feed those gas guzzlers you still see back in the US.

I thanked a visiting friend a few days ago who drives a Prius in the States -- thanks to early-adopters like her, Toyota can now sell these smaller versions at nearly half the price of her 5-year-old car. The savings in her two-hour daily commute has likely paid off the entire car in that time. I had been pleasantly surprised when it turned out our new car wouldn't cost an arm and a leg... and now we no longer wince quite as much to see stories like this one.

All right, time to push the yen back up to 78 yen to the dollar! That'll get gasoline prices back down! Oh, but then Nissan won't be able to sell any cars, damn! Ghosn said he wants the yen to be around 110...

Time to ditch my thirsty american car?

'Insert convenient excuse here' should be the reason.

Just the right timing before the "Obon" holidays.

The price of premium gasoline is well over 160 yen a litre!
