So Japan Inc is dropping out of the self-driving car race.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Self driving cars will never be successful. Does one need to explain why ?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Actually you do. Self driving panes are becoming the norm, why not wheeled vehicles?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Planes fly in the sky at 33000 meters. Cars drive on roads where there are children, carjackings and road rage.

they will also cause massive traffic jams and get people fired for being late to work.

they can easily be hacked and used for seriously bad deeds.

When tave accidents, who is to blame?

im very anti. But I do like the reverse camera and the danger sensors in my car. That is enough.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

That makes no sense... over 90% of traffic accidents are caused by human error. If you eliminate the errors driving is exponentially safer.

How does a carjacking get made safer by having an emotional human driving instead of a detached logical computer system?

Do children get killed by human drivers? What's your point there?

Which reacts faster a 60 yr old human driver or a with a central cpu controlled system with bank of sensors that are always scanning 360 degrees around the car?

They are easily hacked? So cars nowadays are never stolen and used for really bad deeds? Again you don't offer a good reason against them.

@simon. 90 precent really? Which countries?

this technology will spread. Bangladesh? Ever been there?

I agree with some of your points, but in Japan 60 years old is the norm. Don’t be ageist. I think new technology can help older people, but driverless cars, why worry about anything, just dementia and drunk.

my solution...anybody over 65,should have the sensor system. By law.

So I’m guessing Takata wasn’t invited.

You are kidding right 'Google on top' ha! fix crappy Google Translate first, before even focussing on cars.

@simon. 90 precent really? Which countries?

Too hard to read the link? Start with America. Do you know how accidents happen?

So Japan Inc is dropping out of the self-driving car race.

Based on which knowledge?

The algorithms are not good enough yet and will not get better in the foreseeable future..

Yea, what's the point here..just nonsense

Which reacts faster a 60 yr old human driver or a with a central cpu controlled system with bank of sensors that are always scanning 360 degrees around the car?

Some 60 yr old drivers react faster than many easy to distract millennials..

So the poster is saying that a 25 yr old reacts faster than a cpu controlled device? :)

What was the poster thinking when he typed this nonsense..?

Obvious some people have no clue about the latest developments in technology so they should focus on what they are good at ...or something like that :)

@netgrump

Based on which knowledge?

Honda is using GM's software.

> Honda is using GM's software.

Alright, but how about Toyota leading on this field also in the US of A ?

So your statement about ‘ Japan Inc dropping out ...’ is nonsense.
