There must be a delay in plastic waste washing up on shoreline. My Amazon packages have had no plastic pillows for at least 12 months, all paper now.

Stuff has to be packaged to survive delivery. Most of my Amazon boxes are re-used. Those that aren't are recycled. The paper used to fill gaps in them goes in my compost bin. Amazon have no control over 3rd party sellers and cannot know what they are doing, so what is the point in asking them? It's likely that Amazon's centralised, optimised system has considerably reduced waste over pre-Amazon days, when everyone sent their own packages. This feels like lazy activists chasing soft targets for PR. What about all those rivers full of plastic (and continued deforestation) in third world countries?

It's not just Plastic, Amazon has a huge Cardboard wastage problem, when you order something as small as a lightbulb, Amazon ships it to you in an A4 sized box with a bit of paper padding! So on the one hand, polluting with Plastics, and on the other, cutting down more trees to provide cardboard boxes.

But wait.... I guess Amazon will slap on a new fee to charge us for this delivery packaging wastage, and they'll call it an Environmental Support tax...

They should instead, focus upon the packaging problem...

where we live we have large metal containers for cardboard which are regularly emptied. The cardboard collected is recycled.

My Amazon boxes have much less plastic and now white paper which I keep for use in the kitchen.
