To clarify, the report is entitled, "THE INJURY MACHINE: HOW AMAZON’S PRODUCTION SYSTEM HURTS WORKERS." [CAPs in original]. The PDF is available online at https://thesoc.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/The-Injury-Machine_How-Amazons-Production-System-Hurts-Workers.pdf .

It is a followup report to their 2021 work, entitled " Primed for Pain: Amazon’s Epidemic of Workplace Injuries." [Not in caps]. https://thesoc.org/amazon-primed-for-pain/ .

"We are going to be Earth's Best Employer and Earth's Safest Place to Work," he promised.

But "in stark contrast to Jeff Bezos' recent pledge... the injury rate at Amazon facilities increased by 20 percent between 2020 and 2021," the SOC said.

In addition, Amazon fought long and hard at the beginning of the pandemic to deny workers paid sick leave, leading to a rise in infection as people worked while sick with inadequate PPE.

"Amazon employed one-third of all warehouse workers in the U.S., but it was responsible for nearly one-half (49 percent) of all injuries in the warehouse industry,"

That is crazy both for how high the injury rate is, but also one company employing 1/3 of all warehouse workers to begin with.

I do hope that the recent union trends continue to spread for Amazon. As they continue to pick up steam we might actually see some real improvements there. I can't imagine much else will force them to.

The bigger you are the more occurrences you will have. I have a friend who is a very good Health and Safety Engineer. Amazon had a position available for Director of Health and Safety. My friends has been all over the world directing companies health and safety programs. He interviewed for the position and Amazon said he was too over qualified. He has a Bachelors and Masters in Health and Safety and has worked for fortune 500 companies. Amazon chose a less senior person my friend said what he got from the interviews was Amazon was looking for someone they could control and be a spokes person for the company and Safety was not First!!! It was company first employees second, so this makes sense!
