I'm surprised HMV has kept open as long as it has done. What with Amazon next day delivery for DVDs and downloads for immediate viewing, what's the point of their high-street shops? Apart from getting your hands on physical media today, not a lot.

None of my computers or tablets can play CD, DVD, cassettes, lazer discs, records or them square disc thingies.

if you run a business you have to research your market and adjust.

Oh well. As that iconic British band Queen once sung, another one bites the dust. Sears will be joining them shortly.

which was launched by English composer Edward Elgar in 1921

That might imply the company was owned by Elgar. I think he just took part in the opening ceremony of the first store.

I buy CDs and vinyl. I do not download, I like to handle things. I like to go into a record shop and look through the racks, sometimes you come across stuff you would never think of listening to but turn out to be wonderful. Streaming is very niche.

HMV may resurface again for a 3rd attempt, and perhaps even adjusting it's business model - just as other here have pointed out, it does need to adapt to the times.
