At a time when more jobs than ever before are needed on the home front, Honda decides to build in Mexico? Good luck with that!

Expect a few more companies to follow suit because of the March 11 disaster "excuse". They've got a lot of R&D, testing, and manufacturing already in North America so it seems they have made it clear to that market their not giving up on them. Their home market though ... it only gets worse.

Who would buy cars built in Japan anymore? We have seen so much talk about contaminated food being sent to market but yet to hear anything about other non-food products reaching the market which are contaminated. What about electronics, cameras, cars, etc? These can just as easily be contaminated and then reach the market where we handle them and then get contaminated.

Honda, Honda, Honda. How very unkind of you to reward the Mexicans after they have smuggled drugs into the US for 40-50 years. The US has been the victim of Mexico in so many ways. Now, you reward their citizens by giving them jobs. Give jobs to those in the Northern US and require the workers have valid social security numbers.

The US has been the victim of Mexico in so many ways.

Yeah, right. Poor, struggling Washington being slowly ground to death under the jackboot of Mexico City. All those US citizens desperate to move south and build new lives in the mighty Mexican Empire....

@Leila26 The mexicans having a real, legal, productive job are probably not the ones smuggling evil drug to willing buyers in the US of A. Also, weren't americans weary of immigrants? Guess what, people go to the states to find jobs not available in their countries! More jobs to mexicans, less immigrants! It's a win-win.

Actually, I would say Mexico is a good choice for Honda. They can cover both Americas. I would expect other auto manufactuers to follow suit if they do not have any plants there already.

It is not the "disaster excuse" but the strong Yen that is killing the exporters. So they have to move the production to somewhere cheaper to stay competitive. Moving it to US would not make much sense if you want to cover the American markets. Why deal with unions, legal issues in US, when you can have it easy in Mexico?

Actually I would expect US auto manufacturers to move the production to Mexico as well if they have not done so already.
